Hi to both of you. It's a very moving chapter showing the deep love of a young couple being torn apart by war. I think it's happened to a lot of young couples throughout history. I do enjoy the story. All best. Ulla:)))

I do enjoy reading this novel. It's great and I do know this very situation happened to many of my friends.

"What's a' matter with you, Beautiful?" A familiar voice asked. (speech tag, lower case 'a')

"My heart's done skipped a hundred beats." I exclaimed. "What are you doing sneaking up on us that way, Grandpa? You scared the living daylights out of me!" (comma needed after exclaimed)

"Why, of course, I did, that's what I intended to do. I know you have a wild imaginative mind. Did you also feel me poking your behind with a stick? By doing so, I knew you'd think I was a black panther, ready to mangle you. What's even worse, how about my shiny teeth?"

Grandpa put a flashlight up to the side of his check, opened his mouth, baring his full set of dentures, then turned the flashlight on.

"See? Now, I can understand how you thought this here mouth belonged to a panther. Truth be told, though, many don't believe they exist in the Smoky Mountains. However, I'm here to tell you they do, 'cause I've seen them with my own two eyes--You Betcha!" (This should be one long paragraph)

This is beautifully written and truly moving as the pure joy of their love for each other shines through brilliantly in every well penned line. I loved Grandpa's story since it weaves both caution and hope into a pretty big decision to make love or not. Well done and thank you very much for sharing it.

What an AWESOME chapter, Cathy and Bill! I enjoyed reading it. I love the way it focuses on Grandpa. His behavior, conversation, and story-telling proves what readers are discovering about Bill--that he does, indeed, take after his beloved Grandpa. And it shows what a lovable man Grandpa was in all aspects. You did an AWESOME job showing more insights into him as a person-not just someone in a novel. He is real and believable!

I love the way you used bold font to highlight Grandpa's story. Not only does it make it stand out to read, but it shows how special it is in general. His words are thoughtful and thought-provoking, too. Those words show Grandpa's deep love for Grandma, his deep spirituality, and his deep love for family--including Cathy.

The inclusion of the historical events of the time were well interwoven with the story. The American Indian Citizen Act of 1924 had special significance for Grandpa and me. My great-grandmother on my grandfather's side was an American Indian. The book, "Cat's Cradle" was, and is, a great book that many may not know, but will look into now. The inclusion of these 'things' keep readers aware of the time frame which this novel is set. I believe the Viet Nam War (undeclared as it was) will be a pivotal part of this novel.

The spirituality of Cathy and Bill is real and special. It shows their deep faith in a special way that many will identify with. I like how you wove that in this chapter.

Ending as you did makes a great cliff-hangar. It will make readers return to find answers and, also, open up many more ways to explore the events that will forever link the characters to the novel and each other--in a real way.

Thanks, Cathy and Bill for sharing this amazing chapter. It is EXCELLENT! Respectfully with Admiration. Laura Jan

This chapter is heartbreaking citations from the Bible and blessings of an ad hoc matrimony by an Elder, and then you go to work. So much dramatism but also joy packed in one chapter. Thank you for sharing

I'm enjoying each chapter as it comes along, This also takes place in my era. I was in high school when my brother, who was in the Navy, left for Viet Nam. Many of my friends ended up going too. It was a deep emotional era for my generation.
Keep going on the book! I'll see you in chapter 12!
Patty
