Exceptional
This work has reached the exceptional level

You are off to a great start with your novel, Tootie. I loved reading this chapter and look forward to following the future chapters.

The background info is a great addition. It gives readers a personal involvement--they feel they know the authors. Your choice of book cover is perfect. It will never grow old--useful when Bill left, will serve when (if) he returns, and the many other 'trips' involved.

You told the story in a descriptive way with great feeling and emotion. The choice of topic will give you many avenues to explore since 1984 was a tumultuous year. There will be so many people, events, and other topics to include in the background of this love story. So many love stories revolve around WW! & @ or earlier. This one set during the VietNam War will offer a new perspective of a love story anchored in this time.

The writing from one in the military to his girl and her writing to him will offer 'both' sides of the issue, I am sure based on what you wrote about the focus of the story. The questions you posed to readers serve to cause them to want to find answers to each one.

Thanks for sharing. I look forward to chapter 2.

Excellent!

Cathy,

Really well written post and beginning of a new book. Sounds thoroughly intriguing and I can't wait to read both sides of this story. The 60s was a pivotal time in the US -polarizing in many ways, so this story should have a lot to offer. And since many vets don't choose to speak about their experiences, that part should be enlightening, as well.

A couple of small notes:
1.) In Bill's history:
-->from Vanderbilt Law School in Nashville in 1980, Bill entered the U.S. Air Force + Upon serving in "Operation Desert Storm (Iraq) in 1990-1991, with 30 years of
--> that doesn't seem to add up?

2.) Am I to (wander) in the darkness of hurt and sorrow,

Thanks! I enjoyed!

Hi Robyn! Thank you so much for reading and reviewing the intro & Chapter 1 of Love Long Distance. Glad you enjoyed this post and are intrigued. Bill and I really appreciate your comments and edit suggestions. My bad for using the word "upon" in bio, making it sound like active duty ended right after Operation Desert Storm. Hope it makes better sense now. Stay tuned for Chapter 2. Coming soon!

Tootie and Bill, this is so sweet and very well-written. I am the same age as Commando. I could relate to just about everything in your story. My stepbrother, Steve, was a Green Beret, and I actually told his story through my eyes; his struggles and premature death from Agent Orange exposure in "Memories of Vietnam." My husband missed the military draft. We have been happily married for 44 years. Many of our family members were in the military and served in the different branches. I love stories of overcoming difficult circumstances with faith in God. I am staying tuned to this one.
All my best,
Sal :+) :+)

This is an interesting venture that has all the potential to be a dramatic and beautiful love story. I like the way you have started. The atmosphere of love tinged with uncertainty is strongly emotive. Good writing.

It's a good idea to tell the story using both the main characters' voices. That way we get both points of view.
Good luck with your projects and with this novel in progress.

I am very happy that i saw this very first chapter .Now I can follow it regularly(hopefully).
I liked the two viewpoints appearing simultaneously. grief of separation is intense and I hope the love will see them thro their trials.
