Wow! What a sister - I have one just like she. This piece is very interesting and exciting. Once I get going on it I cannot take my eyes away. The wording is exceptional. I feel more like I'm there than reading it. I love your writing, my friend. This is good reading.

Always with respect,

Thanks for the encouraging review, Eigle. One wonders how two children from the same family can be so different.

Well, I guess Mom knew best as always. She knew Barb would get antsy and move on to greener pastures, and it turns out that she was right. Personally, I could never get angry enough at my folks to change all of my contact information to make it nearly impossible for them to contact me, and especially over a loan. I mean, my God, what if an emergency came up, or someone had to go to the hospital? What if the worst happened and someone died?

At least Barb's new husband, Rex -- the one that neither you nor your mother got to meet before their marriage -- had a little common decency and convinced Barb to call.

I guess it takes all kinds.

Good writing, Shari. I've got nothing in the way of corrections to add to this one.

She still contacted her son and he was likely her first emergency contact. But you're right. What if he were in an accident and worst scenario, coma. We would have no way to tell her. On the other hand, if she didn't call or hear from him after a few days, guess she'd break down and call us.
As for Rex, I always admired him for that bit of common sense.

Dear Shari,
You can't help it if Barb was so selfish, but I know it hurts. She actually let you do all the work, although knowing you, each day with your mother was a treat. Isolate herself then she didn't feel the guilt.
Very insightful writing about a tough family time in your life.
Well done,
Carolyn

Thanks, Carolyn. By writing this, I hope to get more insight myself into what happened when it was all over.

Wow! And sad too. I imagine you sister to be like a mother who answers the phone politely after raising holy hell because the kid did something and then when the phone call ends, returns to the previous vocalizations at the same level and not skipping a beat. Cold, as a matter of fact, and seemingly as if nothing happened. You seem to have been hurt by your sister's behavior. I guess she had an extreme personality. I don't remember if I recall Rex or not from your other segment.

Oh, ew, the image and smell of those sheets lingers.... Ew!!!!

This is the first mention of Rex. Cold is right. We nicknamed her The Ice Queen. I think any hurt I felt at the time was more for my mother. I felt more sad than anything else.

I can't get over how self-centered Barb is. What a brat.

Why don't you put this into a BOOK? It would be easier for us if we could look back for something we forgot. Btw, I thought this post would have been the next chapter in Vivian's story. Not my luck. Maybe next time. :)

I'll get to it next. Thanks for pushing me.
One day, I will put this into a book. I didn't expect it to turn out so long.

Make a book now and put those chapters in. The longer you wait, the more chapters you'll have to enter one at a time. :)
