It is a heartbreaking poem of a mother's wish to have a baby but it is not meant for her. It is the most wonderful experience to become a mother from the first one till the last. I have three today they are all grown and I would wish to have them again their ages 35, 33. 26

Thanks Sandra. Louise has come to terms with it more these days. I have talked about her Mother's reaction when we first told them we wanted to get married more than 29 years ago, as to children. Louise has Cerebral palsy and I know had we had children she would have coped. Appreciate your review.

This brought tears to my eyes. So sad but with an undercurrent of acceptance. I loved the picture but was really moved when I read that it had been knitted by your wife when in her teens. Lovely poem. Thank you for writing it. JP

This is a very good free verse you have penned. You used very good wording and very good imagery with the picture. I know it must hurt really bad. I love my children so much. I am sorry you don't have any. God bless. Hugs, teri

Glad you had kids, Sis. She has come to terms with it more. And God is blessing. She would have been able but I am the one that is infertile. I talk about that in my book. We believe it was God's will anyway as our health deteriorated more in later years. We have a new pastor and wife she is so good with Louise.

Oh Geoff,
Both the author notes and the picture, along with the poem just tugged at my heart.
It must have been so difficult for you both. It must still be. It's hard to say, "They will be done," I think, in certain situations.

Yeah I had a picture on it before I got from Fan Art, then I remembered the little cardigan and snapped a picture of it, that Louise had made for her BABY SHE HOPED TO HAVE SOME DAY. Oops mad Caps lock again sorry. Thanks for being such a great helper and friend. I guess we will meet in Glory some day and I believe maybe sooner than we think huh!

Hi Geoff,
(Just found your real name?)
Nice poem. Again, some suggestions to bring extra spaces into the understanding and interpretation of the poem. Of course, these are only my take on it, and in no way it suggests that the poem was or is "wrong" in any sense. Just my gut feeling here, nothing more.
Some suggestions:
--Her desire to be a part.
>>Her desire to be a part<<
Take period out.
--Of that tenderness and
softness of a Little baby's 'feel'
>>Of that tenderness
the softness of a Little baby's 'feel' <<
--Skipping Mother's Days and Father's Days
>>Skipping Mother's Days
and Father's Days<<
--Because to be a part of these,
Our sadness would not end.
>>To be a part of these,
Our sadness would not end. <<
--The yearning, longing emptiness,
>>The yearning, longing
emptiness, <<

Jo Ann died in 2010 at 59,childless, of COPD complications, without putting up much of a fight. No kids after 44 years.
If you have any resources left, think fostering, adopting, SOMETHING. Your situation-been there done that. God Bless.

Hi thanks for your comments. Actually it worked out ok for us we are both on Disability now so it would seem God knew ahead of time that we may have had problems with bringing up kids anyway. If you read my book I think I said something about my future Mother in law's comment when we told her we wanted to get married ( Whose gonna look after the children!!) Don't know if we met bvefore but thanks for the review.

I understand, having my first two pregnancies end in miscarriage. People don't seem to understand that you are
not grieving a miscarriage, but a much desired child. My third pregnancy was to b my final try, but God looked at me
with good fortune and we had one, then two, daughters. Had it
failed we would have adopted. I wanted a grandaughter, but got grandsons. Recently I did acquire a grandaughter. An 18 year old girl that needed a home. She has since been "absorbed" into our family. I wish you God's blessings.

Thanks Friend appreciate your fine words. I have often said to Mum who have lost little ones that it may be that God took them to prevent them suffering something awful in later life. I hope that is not trite. My wife has Cerebral palsy but I praise God every day her mother ever aborted her when she knew as then I would never have met her. In my autobiography you can read how we met if you care to, thanks again.

This contest - Free Verse Contest - yours actually rhymes and does it well. It is requested that it does have form - yours does and flows well. The subject is quite sad and I'm sure people who wish for a baby and have been unsuccessful so far will identify. You chose such a lovely picture - a little jacket waiting for its owner. A lovely read. Good Luck in the contest. Regards Dorothy

Hi Dorothy I thought the contest was over? Maybe I made a mistake? The jacket was knitted by my wife as a teen ager in anticipation of her own little baby sadly not realised.

Oh I am sorry - that's sad! Regards Dorothy

I didn't know that you and your wife had no children. I had a son and daughter; my son passed away 11 years ago. But while they were growing up they brought a lot of other kids around the house and to this day some of them still consider me and my husband to be mom and dad. Some of them lived with us for a few years and one of the girls married my son leaving behind two beautiful granddaughters. Eben though it's been 11 years, Melissa never remarried, and we are as close today as we were then. We will always be mom and dad to her.

Sounds lovely. Thanks for sharing. Glad you read my poem. I only just put it up for review again yesterday with the picture of the dear little cardigan Louise knitted as a teen ager for her possible child later on.

My pleasure.
