Again, I missed this the first time around. Thank you for re-posting it.
The next few months, I got to experience being a housewife and pregnant mom to be. (The following few months.)

I'm sure I probably missed reading a lot of your work back them too. I appreciate your reviewing it this time. I changed the line to your suggestion.

What I would give to go back and find a much simpler and less stressful way of life. I never had much when my children were small, but I had time to enjoy them and we did things that didn't cost money. Nowadays, kids are all about expensive technical stuff and parents are stressed to the point of breaking.

There was stress back the, but we were better able to handle it You are right about it being harder to raise kids these days. They aren't like we were, and their needs and wants are much more complicated.

I can see you stringing these together as a publishable memoir; the market for these is good only if you have exceeded your "fifteen minutes of fame" quota by a wide, wide, margin, but your descendants will find it a treasure; I wish my mother had done the same.

Thank you Joel. I don't plan to promote them for the market. I'm writing them for my family. I'm big into genealogy and I would love it if someone had left something behind to let get to know my ancestors. I'll self publish and get copies for my family.

Hi, Beth. So, what did you finally name the baby? (or did I miss it? LOL
A fine piece of writing, Beth...all The way through. I still would consider making this into a book now rather than wait, were it me...because it reads like a book, so why not?
I wish I had a six left for you. Bob

Thank you Bob. I really appreciate your review and comments. The baby gets named in a in the next one. Into Every Life Some Rain must Fall. It is still active as is An Awkward Situation.
I've made the book but I was letting these chapters stand alone until they are no longer active. There are eight chapters in the book already. It is called Chasing the Elusive Dream.

Your ability to describe your situations so well is a testament to your writing skills. This said, I can relate to the 'pressure' on when you would start a family. I hared it and was unable to wait until I graduated college.
Reading your work is like a 'blast from the past.'
Take care,
Ray

A new baby and a new puppy basically living the American dream for the moment. We all know it takes but an instant, one little happening to change the way our life goes. Good job. God loves you and so do I.

Thank you Evelyn, I just posted the next part of this story which shows how quickly things can change. It will be the most painful chapter.

I enjoyed reading this story. It was as if we were sitting at your yellow Formica dinette, drinking tea together and getting to know each other.
wow $12.500! My first house back 1n 1968 was $23,500 and I thought that was a small fortune. Who knew that ordinary middle class folks would be spending hundreds of thousands of dollars for brick and mortar some day?
nicely done.

Thank you so much for the review and comments. I'm so pleased that you felt the story came across like I was talking. Yes, times and prices have changed. We bought the house in Mississippi in 1959.

Funny how life provides its own schedule. Your hint that harder times might be on the way is well placed. I must say that taking in a puppy just before having a baby was a pretty gutsy move.
It doesn't matter to me, Beth, but sooner or later I expect you'll want to put this in book form.

Thank you Lee, I appreciate the review and comments. I have eight or nine in sequence and several others that will come later. I'm trying to put this into book form but I can't seem to come up with a good title. Any ideas?

Don't worry too much about a title, Beth. Your publisher will want to change it anyway.

What a warm and contented mood to this chapter as you become homeowners and parents-to-be. I like the way your personal story reveals so much about the attitudes of the times. I'm sure some younger readers will be amazed at the price of a house at that time. :-) Brooke

Thank you Brooke, I appreciate the review. Yes, those times were very different from today. Our parents had been through the great depression so a bit of their thrifty attitudes rubbed off on us.

This is well done, Beth. I laughed about the baby name thing. It's much easier to "just say no". Did you have as much trouble naming the puppy? :D Nancy

Thank you for the review and comments Nancy. Evan didn't have any relative named Dusty so I got away with naming the dog. He was a strange shade of gray, so Dusty seemed the natural name.
