Oh my gosh, what an absolutely gorgeous free verse, Connie. The lush images you evoke with your words and the beautiful touches of alliteration throughout really make this a stand-out entry. This is the work of a mature, talented poet.
We have many wetlands near my home, and they are protected by law - yet folks continue to make inroads into their domain.
This is an evocative reminder of the power of nature and wild places. Good luck with this superb entry, my dear friend. Love ya, Bev

Oh, Bev, you spoil me, sweetie, with all your kind words and with a sixer too! I love getting sixes. I don't have enough of an active fan base to ever get 15 or more reviews, so when I get a six-star rating and land on the front page, then I'm more apt to at least get my 15. So thank you, my friend! Love ya right back, Connie

Connie, you are so very welcome, and I am really glad that I left a six for such a special write! And I love seeing your name on the front page... Hugs, Bev

What an amazingly stunning photo! Was this taken at the edge of those wetlands your mentioned in your notes? If so you've certainly captured a most delightful picture of it. Although it is a remarkable photo, it does make me wonder how beautiful it must have been utilizing all the other senses
You have it illustrated wonderfully in your free verse poem. You've summed the whole feel of this outstanding poem with these closing words:
"I realize no picture
will capture
the exhilaration I feel at this moment
as nature awakens
in all its magnificent glory"
Thank you so much for sharing this piece.Best wishes in the contest.
Blessings to you!

hmmm how can a picture truly capture such a wonderful experience as this? Every detail penned was as if the sun was rising on my face and I was watching the morning and nature come to life so early.

Thank you, sweet Melissa, for such a lovely review and for a six-star rating too! By the way, I am so impressed with your presentation yesterday. I had to miss part of it, so I will listen to it tonight. Thanks again, my friend. Connie

A pretty good effort here Connie with a very expressive and descriptive free verse about your enamour of the wetlands near your home. I found the flow a little sticky through the middle...I think some of it if rearranged slightly would give it a better flow...but at the end of the day, the end of the line signals the pause so I understand thats where you wanted them...I think the last stanza was much better and if you made a few of the lines a little longer here and there where it lends itself...I think it would scan a teency bit smoother. The content got you over the line for a fiver easy my friend and a fine effort. Maybe read a couple of times aloud and try some variations...its amazing how different something can sound when said in one breath, as opposed to two lines...hope I don't appear too harsh as you know, free verse NOT my strong point. Its what I get when I read it though. Overall a terrific job embracing your wetlands in poetic verse.
Lots of love Phillippa xoxoxo

Oh, sweetie, what an encouraging and helpful review you've written on my attempt at free verse. It's funny you would mention playing around with the lines and the lengths. I kept changing the length of the lines over and over and then decided to just post it. I missed your sweet voice last night in the call. I hope everything is okay and that your block is sold and you are a happy lady! Thanks again. Love ya, Connie

Haha...I do that aswell...A LOT...LOL...talk soon Connie

lovely alliteration in phrases like wetlands where the silhouette of a sandhill crane catches
Vivid descriptions and specific detail make this scene a pleasure to visualize and you appeal well to senses not limited to the visual
and what a wonderfully meaningful message you deliver in your final stanza :-) Brooke

Hi Connie
Your author's note says you are trying to capture the feel of the wetlands in your poetry.
Let me assure you your beautifully composed poem does exactly that with its wonderful descriptions of nature.
I'm guessing that the stunning photograph is the one you took?

Thanks, Ron, for your usual thoughtful review. You asked if I took the photograph; I'm afraid the answer is no. I should have included a little acknowledgement of Google Images. I do have lots of wetland pictures I've taken but was too lazy to look back for them and found Google Images much easier to pull up. Thanks again, my friend. Hope all is well with you across the pond. Connie xx

What a lovely free verse poem! So descriptive that I feel I am there, even though I am a stranger to wetlands. I would love to see some of the photos you take there. Do you have them online somewhere?
