I like the bright cheerfulness of this Christmas poem. The rhyming is very "on time" in the flow of the words. The imagery makes for happy visions. I really love Christmas, and this poem says it well.

This is a lovely Christmas poem that captures the sounds, sights, and taste of the season. More importantly, your last stanza captures the true spirit and reason for this day. I like the syllabic arrangement and flowing rhyme. Blessings, Hector

What a beautiful story poem we have here from you. I admired every word of it too. You have great imagery, a great heart and it speaks to your readers through your eyes and the pen you share. Just wonderful and I do hope the ones in despair this year will look up and thank the Christ child even in the rough times He is always there.

Blessings and wishes in this contest

Ah, Beth, your poem is lovely---and tricky given its syllable/rhyme scheme. But I fear it is not the Christ that makes the children's eyes glow, nor much of the rest of it. I apologize for being a killjoy, but wishing it were otherwise will not make it so. Still I very much favor your sentiment and you much luck.

Also congrats on your third place finish---you were robbed, babe!

Peace, Lee

Thank you Lee, I know it's not really what make the kids eyes glow but I'm just trying to be optimistic. I make up that tricky rhyme scheme so now I need to name it and say I invented a new type of poetry like some on this site do. LOL. As for the 3rd place, I've never gotten first on one sponsored by FanStory. I'll take whatever I can get.

Hang in there Beth, you're first in my book. I've finished out of the running more times than I care to count. Some people think I'm over-the-top...wha?

I think you should call your new art form SyllaBeth.
And I prefer your optimism to my cynicism.
As for taking what you can get, I'll let you borrow a flannel shirt, we'll go down to Cousin's and see what happens.
    I'm such a scamp, Lee

Beth, your poem is so beautiful and inspirational, especially for this time of year. So many people have lost their jobs, their homes, etc., but it's wonderful when the spirit rises.

Thank you so much for the review and comments. Yes, It is sad it won't be a great Christmas for everyone. It can be a very hard time for those who have children and can't do for them as they would like to.

The spirit of Christmas does seem to generate that feeling of good cheer or wellbeing which is so infectious.
Even those who do not normally celebrate Christmas feel its warmth.
I particularly like your last verse and last line ' For the gift He gave mankind was so amazing.'

Beth,

Your Christmas entry has a very interesting syllable count and rhyme scheme and it worked very well to convey your
cheery holiday and spiritual message. I liked the positive
energy of this peice and your rhymes as well. I also liked
how you 'wrapped it up' in the end with the gospel.

" they dispatching." I believe it should be: 'they're dispatching' there:)

It's why good will is flowing,
and children's eyes are glowing,
for the gift He gave mankind was so amazing.

What a wonderfully fluid and smiling write this is. Your words echo that feeling in the air and bring a smile to this reader. I simply love your compassion and love that shines through in this write!!!

This is a fantastic poem to read aloud - I just love the cadence and the great rhymes, like catching/dispatching- this rhyme scheme really works.
I love all the great examples you provide of those happy things we associate with the Christmas season - you create such an upbeat atmosphere. Brooke :-)

Outstanding, like receiving a gift. Both the poetry and art. Have you considered contacting Hallmark or American Greetings? I see the work as a greeting/gift card? Since you have the printing and commercial art background, explore the possibility?
