THIS IS SO IRONIC REALLY IS IT IS LIKE THE TRIP MY BROTHER, HIS WIFE, THREE KIDS AND OUR MOM STUFFED INTO THE TRUCK AND CAMPER BACK IN THE 70'S. THE TOO WERE ON THEIR WAY TO COLORADO BUT THEY LEFT FROM FLORIDA TO GO. MY MOM SAID IT WAS SO MISERABLE SHE WAS WANTING TO GET ON A BUS.

Thank you so much for the review and comments. That is ironic. It really does sound like our tirp. I guess Mother got the worse end of this trip. I'm just glad we all survived it.

Great story, sounds like a trip my family went on to the beach. Except we had fourteen kids and six adults. It's also getting so dangerous to travel. Where, many years back the dirty, stringy haired ones were the bad guys and the clean cut you tried to stay close to. Now it's reversed. Loved your story, maybe you need to write it into a screenplay and see if it could be made into a movie. Who knows..right?.

Thank you Cindi, I appreciate the review and comments. It is chapter of a book I'm writing about my memories. I posting these as stand alone stories but when they are no longer active they go into the book.

this is very well written, beth, you did an excellent job writing this chapter where you tell of your misadventures in travelling with three children and your mother in the camper shell. my uncle had one of those.

Thank you so much for the review and nice comments. I don't think I've seen one lately. It isn't a great way to travel.

WOW, Jim and I made lots of trips between Nevada and Illinois and never had cause to fear. LOL Maybe that was because he wouldn't stop to sleep he just turned into the
the energizer Bunny, he just kept going and going. That was pretty miserable at times too. LOL Good story Beth. Was it in the 50's? Nancy

Thank you Nancy, I appreciate the review and your comments. This was in 1968. We did drive all night the first night and got no sleep at all the third night so it wasn't pretty. LOL.

Yeah that was a bad time when we traveled old Route 66. Lots of hippies.

This is very well written! I was feeling the same suspense & agitation that you all must've felt. Your writing is very well organized & logical & perfectly described. I didn't notice any SPAG. We were a family of campers from a young age, being poor with 9 kids. We knew how to camp, but you really do need to know what facilities are available up ahead! I'm amazed you all made it without strangling each other! Good story!

Thank you so much for the review and comments. Later on my kids were involved in a group sort like scouts and I was one of the staff so I learned about camping and I did camp out the right way a few times. We still had some interesting adventures but nothing like this one.

Good ending. Yes, let mom be the hero and don't say anything... :) This is a dramatic outdoor experience.I cannot imagine myself venturing such a journey, especially with kids and an elderly person. I think she's great...

Thank you Belinda. I really appreciate the review and comments. Mom was in her early fifties but she was overweight had blood pressure problems and the altitude made her think she could breathe.

What an excellent narrative of a family journey gone bad. What makes your story so good is that there's many of us out here whom have experienced similar circumstances. The robberies weren't funny ... I remember when Florida had the problem, a serious one. Nevertheless, I got a chuckle out of your tale.

Thank you. I appreciate the review and the comments. I'm glad you saw the humor which of course is only there in retrospect.
There was nothing funny about it at the time.

What a hairy road trip. You were right to freak out . Those creepy people could have easily added to the unpleasant experiences you all dealt with. Glad all worked out well foe everyone.

Thank you Jen. I really appreciate the review and comments. It would have worked into a worse nightmare than it was. Maybe my mom really did save our lives.

This is again, very good. My version of camping is Holiday Inn with room service. LOL You post was humorous, but I know it wasn't when you were living it.

I am so glad you have a recognized status for this. It was a wonderful read, so professional and easy to read. I loved how you described everything, but not excessively so. Great writing, Beth! Glad you revived this work.
