I love the playful art work you chose to showcase your writing. I loved the story of your early marriage. It was very well written, funny and very believable. You are very good at non-fiction, something I find rather difficult to do. Maybe because my life was kind of sad, and I don't want to remind myself of it. So, I stick to fiction.

Thank you so much for the review and comments. I'm so glad you liked the story. Sometimes those with sad lives seem to be helped by writing about them but I can understand about wanting to put the past behind you. Fiction is fun. You can be anyone you want to be. By the way, I just posted another part of the same story called, Growing pains.

I completely understand. In HS I studied sciences and math because my father thought they were the only important classes. I learned how to be a wife and mother by trial and error. Loved your post.

Thanks Barbara, I knew I couldn't be the only one who had to learn by trial and error. I really appreciate the review and comments.

Your ability to bring the reader in to your story is remarkable. Your writing does your encounters justice. The way you describe your personal situations is excellent.

Take care,

Ray

Ah, this story brings back memories of my own first tries at being a new wife. I was married right after graduating from high school and, like you, not so good at domestic chores. Thank goodness my husband was a patient man. My kitchen mishaps involved broiled steak and microwaved cake batter, LOL. We're still together and in love after 43 years. I think all new, young brides have similar stories. The essay is well-written and easy to follow. The part about your "lecherous landlord" is a hoot. I liked how you ended, reaching a "new level" in your relationship. Well done and thanks for sharing. ~JP

Thank you so much June. I appreciate the review and your comments and you sharing some of your own funny experiences. We've been married 57 years and I don't regret a minute of it. I just posted another part of this story called Growing Pains.

Very interesting story. I love hearing tales of domestic life from the 50's and early - always neat to hear what life was like for women and couple back then! Thanks for sharing (-:

An entertaining episode of early married life! Nicely written, and I see no need for any revisions. The ending wrapped things up nicely and succinctly. It held my interest throughout. Altogether an enjoyable story!

This is a well-written piece with a nice blend of humor and drama. I too was ill equipped to handle housework and cooking. Fortunatley, we both married men who could look beyond that. That's quite the story about your lecherous landlords and the socks! Also loved the one about your tupperware in the oven! Bet you two love remembering the old days. We do.

Thank you so much for review and comments. You are right it is a good thing we ended up with the kind of men we did. Yes, reminiscing is fun. My husband usually like reading what I've written, but sometimes he accuses me of making him look too foolish. I have to remind him, I'm the one who most often looks like a bungling idiot.

Wow. What a rough life. But what doesnt kill us makes us stronger, right? I feel that you should get right to the house being set on fire. Just so much introduction for the meat of the story. Good luck.

Thank you so much for the review. I don't really consider this essay to have a central focus but it is rather a combination of the ups and downs of early married life. If it was a story it would have a central theme but that wasn't the intended point for this piece.

LOL...LOL...Hi, Beth. Ah, yes. Young marrieds. So much to learn and so many pitfalls to the education, eh? Very good write, Beth. Reminds me of Erma Bombeck's stuff. Bob

It is amazingly beautiful and sincere. A true non-fictional story. I love it and I can't explain it. A situation you were never prepared for but you have to go through it no matter what and it is remarkable. I can relate to it so well. Being confined by a military father to the house and ordered by an authoritative mother to study medicine rather than my passion in veterinary medicine. at the end I found my self studying electrical engineering without any basics what so every. To my surprise I graduated with a honors for being fast in learning. So I know where you are coming from. Remarkable marriage schooling. I like it so much.

Thank you Daniel, I really appreciate your review and comments. Some parents try to fit their children into their own molds rather than let them find the way by themselves. I'm so glad you liked my story and could relate to it.
