Oh, the brilliant coat of an adult male cardinal is one spectacular object of beauty. 'Tis sad that in the animal world,it is the male who far outshines the female. I suppose that is why we human females wear our paint so that we, too, shine. Alas, the male cardinal only feeds the female seeds during courtship -- and thenstops! Anyway, sixteezkid, this is a lovely haikue, executed very well. mslyla

Hi Sue...this is a fine haiku. I love the picture as it seems so alive. You have described the Cardinal to a tee. Well done....blessings....chey

Aren't they the little "playahs" of the bird world! And just like a man, once he gets what he wants, the feeding beak to beak goes out the window! Maybe we are more alike than we want to give credit for.
Loved i t Cuz!
Sincerely,
Curt

You've not written one??!! I'm in shock! Because you write so much about nature. Haiku is a natural for your keen eye of observation! Now GET CRACKING!!!

I was gobsmacked. A year or two ago I was in NY walking with my ex g/f and in the trees she said, ooo, there's a red cardinal, as if it was the norm. I would not have thought such a bird existed if I hadn't seen it. Same with snapping turtles, though I never saw any, I wonder if she was pulling my leg. Or mayhap peeps take such marvels for granted. This was on Christmas day. But everytime I tried to take a photo of it, it flew off, just like the squirrels living in her air-con. HA she hand fed them....
