This is beautiful. What a lovely, original poem, singing the joys of what's inside a book. I totally see where you're coming from. I always feel sad when I'm coming towards the end of a book I love. I feel as though I'm saying goodbye to a loved one. I felt like that too when I completed my first novel recently. I felt as though these characters had been my friends and they were leaving me. You've done a great job with this with great rhyme and meter and it flows beautifully.
Good luck in the contest.
Warm regards.

Yes! Sometimes you just don't want to leave those friends! But, we get to pick another one up and find more friends to make. Thank you very much for your great review and lovely compliments! With regards, Sue

I too, have a life long love of books, and more recently, audio books. I'm not expert enough to critique an english sonnet, but I know what I like.

I love to listen to books when I'm on a road trip. I make the 4 hour drive to Chicago quite often and enjoy the audios very much. Thank you very much for your lovely compliments! :-)) Sue

I really enjoyed the opening stanza, which captivated me and kept me reading all the way through. The final couplet was adorable and I think a very appropriate image of the magic of a book. What wonders lay inside those tattered jackets! I like this one and have no nits whatsoever. Adam

What a great review! So glad you liked it! Where do you live in the 'burbs? I lived in Oak Brook for 13 years. Daughter lives in Wicker Park area now. Thanks again for your very nice compliments! :-)) Sue

I grew up in the City, near Belmont and Cicero. I moved to Hanover park 10 years ago, and have lived in West Chicago (1 yr.), Streamwood (3 yrs.) and now I'm in Woodstock (since Oct.).
I like it best here in Woodstock.
Wicker Park is an awesome place to live. There is so much activity there and so much history. The neighborhood has had its ups and downs, but it's up now, for sure. So many pretty girls live there now! :)

I share your love of books and enjoyed your poem. You convey well the sense of how well loved books can become like old friends, familiar and aging over time. Good read. Kind regards,MM.

LOL yes books can definitely become our best friends. It's getting time to read them at the moment that's the difficulty for me. Sonnets aren't easy, this is a good effort.

May I have your permission to copy this beautiful sonnet and place in my library? (That would be the 2 far walls of my bedroom-converted-to-office. It's a place that more than a thousand books call 'home'.) I feel that each and everyone of them would appreciate the words and beauty of this masterpiece.
Thanks for sharing.

What a wonderful compliment. Yes, you may let your books be given a friend with my "Special Edition". HA! A great home for my piece. And thank you for asking permission. This is the best compliment one can ever receive. And I thank you for it. With warmest regards, Sue

You've done really well with this sonnet, and written it with a nice theme, I enjoyed reading this. Sonnets are hard for me to write, but it seems as though you wrote this with ease. My pleasure to review. Thanks for sharing and good luck in the competition.

Luna *smile*

Hello Luna, I've been meaning to say to you that I also love Slash, Plath, Christopher Walken, anything Tarantino! HA! When I paint, I crank up "Paradise City" real loud and when that long guitar solo hits, I get "lost". And I'm always quoting some line from a Tarantino film. Like, "Zed's Dead, Baby!" Ha!! Thanks so much for your great compliments in this review! :-)) Sue

You have here a very well-done sonnet. It is definitely a pleasure to read with perfect rhyme and meter. The sonnet is so pleasant to read when done correctly as this one is.
Nice work.

You are talking about books here right?
I think this is really good and very creative poem from you.
There are some books that really does for us and no matter how tattered they become over use they are still very attached to us.
Happy new year, how have you been?
Much love,
Justmade.

The art work is superb and your words written about pages excellent.
"I see you sitting there amongst your friends.
So handsome, though your jacket shows a tear,
And many of your pages have tipped ends.
How could you be so loved without this wear.
The First Edition ~ that's your pedigree
Untouched, pristine; no story does it tell.
Successor to this print, you are so free
To be fulfilled; in loving hands you dwell.
But comes the time today we'll say goodbye.
I thank you for those special words you've said.
New mates await you. Oh, they'll laugh and cry,
Appreciating how you're so well read."
Yes their is a time we have to say good bye to depart with a book that we have read. We hesitate giving it back to the library. I can always borrow you again.
Great writing and very creative words.
Honeytree.
A gift you are ~ with pearls and gems inside.
For as you're opened up, you shine with pride.
