This is very inspiring and uplifting. Thanks for sharing:-)

"Perhaps the greatest blessing comes to the one who does the praying, for in communicating with God, in a spirit of caring, His love comes flowing right down from heaven into our hearts every time we do this." Great thought:-)

God bless!

Bless your prayer-full heart too!
Your faith and devotion to God are inspiring.
The message is elevating and deep...true and profound.
You deliver the message clearly and with compelling emotional intent.
Though I am not Christian (but love Christ), I have also felt the power of prayer. Had an operation over a month ago and literally felt I was floating on clouds of grace because many were praying for me. It was certainly quite tangible.

And it is very true that the one who prays benefits equally..or even more.

Bless you. I cannot critique this...just applaud your clarity of purpose and faith.

Warm Regards,
rama devi

The power of prayer is an extraordinary thing - whatever the path, and whether it's the belief or that believed in, that achieves what it does. (Did that sentence make any sense at all lol?) Drawing energy, drawing on the sense of life's, and love's, unity - it's an amazing thing.

Fine essay, Jan, I enjoyed it. One little question: when you use "in Jesus name" several times, I think it should be "in Jesus' name", shouldn't it? Same as one would say "in God's name" rather than "in God name".

Hugs! And how're the goaty queens of Iowa doing?

I thank you, dear Louise for this fine review! I think you are correct and I changed that part you noted. The goats are doing fine - I just wish they would hurry up and finish having babies! :-)

How good to know there belivers among us. I'm in agreement with you Janilou, prayer is the greatest gift we can give one another.

The written prayers are sure to help the believer who doesn't know the words to say to the Father for a loved ones. For many it is amazing to them that prayer is like having conversation with God, it doesn't have to be all intellectual as you have well shown. I am so pleased to have this among us. Let us have more. maggiejo

To pray for someone else's wellbeing and health is quite a common thing though usually confined to family members and very close friends. But the essay pleads for a more noble act ie. to pray for others that you know and suggests some of the forms the prayer could take. That seems to be an act inspired by the Lord Himself, Janilou. Bless you and may the message reach the hearts of all on FS.

Being a Christian i just loved this reminder of the importance of prayer. I too feel lead to pray for people and sometimes at the strangest times. I make it a rule if I happen to dream about someone I'll pray for them after waking up. Not sure why i dreamt about them but just feel lead to do it just in case it was God putting them on my heart. Nice little devotional here and would like to share it with some loved one with your permission. Do you mind?

This truly moved me. When I converted to the Anglican/Episcopal Church at 15, this is probably the first new prayer I learned:

Almighty God, we entrust all who are dear to us to Thy never-failing love and care, knowing that Thou are doing better things for them than we could desire or hope for, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

I have never forgotten that prayer for the last thirty-five years. I have felt, after the PaterNoster, the Hail Mary, the Gloria, and the Te Deum, it is the most powerful prayer I have ever read. Thank you for reminding me of it.

The essay flows well, and makes its point for the power of prayer unobtrusively. There is a well of kindness in the essay.

Janilou,

This is an excellent Christian essay about caring for other people. I found only one nit, where a word seemed to be left out:

"It doesn't matter if you [don't?] even remember their name."
