Ive never liked going to restaurants for Thanksgiving. I like the leftovers too much. I like to fall asleep in the chair from a turkey coma then wake up and go back for seconds. Memories are made around the table. This was very good. Good luck in the contest. Gretchen

I really enjoyed all those leftovers too. I think we will not get away with eating on at Christmas though. I appreciate your review.

I wish I had had more respect for all the difficulties my mom had to go through for cooking Thanksgiving dinner for five people, plus guests that would drop by. In the days, there were no places to get cooked Thanksgiving meals, though my mom would've rejected them.

Thank you, Jim. Women had a lot of work to do for these big feasts. My husband always helped with the clean up and anything I asked him to do. We were young and full of energy it was fun.

It's a blessing just to have good memories like that.

I rather agree with you. I think the old-fashioned way is probably better and we probably have a better time and we're more comfortable with family that way. This year we had my daughter myself and my son-in-law for Thanksgiving dinner and that was fine with us we enjoyed it very much. We were absolutely able to Eat our food on the patio. It was that nice outside. Patricia.

Thank you, Patricia. I do miss the wonderful Thanksgivings of the past but they were a lot of work which I can do anymone.

Times have changed, to be sure. Maybe they'll get warm fuzzy memories from being together in the restaurant with loved ones, but they surely can't compare with sights and tastes of home!

Thank you, Verna. It was still good to be with family and I didn't miss all the work but those memories of other days are precious.

Very nice. Good end rhyme and a timely story that many people can relate with. I know the idea of going out to eat came up with my family this year, as more and more restaurants are now open on Thanksgiving. As for the memories. After a while they all sort of mix together anyway.
Solid entry.

Thank you for the review and comments. There is no doubt about it restaurant have the advantage of making life less work and we don't leave us eating leftovers for days but I do miss the traditional way.

Yes, it's an interesting summation at the end and one that many people will agree with - effective setting out of the situation as each stanza outlines the different approaches

Great entry. You nailed it.
And there's a lot of truth in it. We men didn't do much in the way of cooking, but we did a lot, especially when young.
Ain't no memories in a restaurant. You can't even all get there together.

Your writing always evokes pleasant memories of the past. It has such a nice flow and tempo. I can picture you all happy at the restaurant despite the memories haunting you. gayla

Thank you Gayla. I'll admit I can't spend hours on my feet cooking like I once did and it is easier this way. We have a traditional meal Christmas.

An excellent entry in the Share a Story in a Poem contest. The old-fashioned ways were definitely the best but time moves on and people pass, leaving our table less crowded. I've resorted to an easier celebration. the food changed but the thanksfulness didn't. thanks for sharing.
