Rachelle, another champion chapter, and a jam-packed one!
I think "oy" is such a great word. It makes me smile every time I read it. And meshugana! what can I say? Oh, and I really wish I could see your new outfit!!!! Hope you describe it. and the shoes, of course.
Now that y'all are almost out of Amishville, you're not only going to have to introduce the mystery woman with the dark ringlets, but fill us FSians in on the the Convention. And, I really think your readers would love to know how Helene turns out. :)
Oh, by the way, I received my 4 FS-authored books from Lee, and of course, had to turn pages to see what he looks like. Not how I pictured him, but as he is peering over his glasses with an expression of devilish humor, I've decided to call him, the "silver-tongued devil." like it or not.
Most enjoyable chapter.
Katharine

I'm sure he loved it. He and I have become very good friends this past year, and I couldn't enjoy him more. He's so cryptic and hilarious on top of being frank and brilliant.

Thanks for the very nice review. xoxo

    His response,"I've had worse."

Do you know that his hair falls to the middle of his back? Or that he's 6'6" tall?
reply by pome lover on 08-Sep-2024
    good grief. no, I didn't.
He said he was an ex-hippie. Sounds like he returned.
reply by the author on 08-Sep-2024
Yes, he also says that in the bio in the back of the book. The exact words are: Thirty years later, Lee shed the world of commerce and renewed his hippie vows - he was born again.
reply by pome lover on 08-Sep-2024
6 foot 6 inches is a lot of hippie. I wonder what he does for a living?
My guess is he's not married, no kids. But, still, a funny, smart, rather pompous guy. At least that's my take.

That's in his bio, too, Katharine!! (Did you just look at his picture and then close the book??) He was an advertising copywriter/idea man/creative director

And you're right: no wife (ever) and no kids.
reply by pome lover on 08-Sep-2024
    well, good for him.
I was getting ready to walk out the door. Told him I was going to read the book tonight when I went to bed, so no, I didn't see that.

Makes me wonder what other Amish girls do for a 'fairy godmother' as they attempt the Rumspringa English world. Without a sponsor, I can see a lot of failure and dashing back to the farm.
Best wishes.

And that's maybe why the parents aren't overly worried when they see them leave.

Thanks for the feedback and nice review, Wayne. xo

Perfect. I felt like I jumped from my body into yours. I loved your description of your angel cousin, though it sounded like she was a Jersey Housewife the way she was dressed. I also love the nod to the stranger. Glad you didn't say anything about your gut feeling when you saw her. It made more sense that you were caught up in your Tova/ fancy clothes/Jimmy Choo euphoria. This chapter read so quickly. I feel like both your rendition and mine would be hard to stop reading . This was amazing. Was it hard to go from reading mine to writing yours? Really a perfect volley here. I'm thinking one or two more each then we move on to Part 2. Maybe call it Deadly Detour. Lol. Gretchen

No, it was easy to write the follow-up version to your fabulous lead-in. You set the stage so perfectly!

Jewish princesses look like this no matter where they're from. It's our stock in trade! I remember one year taking my friend's daughter to the Jewish day-camp bus stop, and those princesses were honest-to-gawd wearing SERIOUS JEWELRY - as in 3-carat diamond stud earrings and matching tennis bracelets - at 7:45 a.m., replete with their designer short sets...I repeat: TO THE PRE-SCHOOL CAMP BUS STOP!!! Every outing is a runway event. (As you can see, I am NOTHING like this, myself. Noooo. Certainly NOT!!)

I'm German. It's sturdy clothes and flip flops or tennis shoes. You would think you are in a third world country if you went into my closet. Lol.

I'm German, too, but that's the side of me that makes multiple daily To Do lists. The FRENCH side of me is the one that loves fashion.

No one's closets are more sparse than Pam Lonsdale's!! Honestly, the picture of it she sent me is so bad, I asked if she'd been robbed. The woman has, like ZERO clothes!!!

Help has finally arrived, and Tova has brought Rachelle's kind of fashionable clothes. Wouldn't Mrs. K.T be the perfect on to give the welcome address at the FS convention. I'd love to be there! I hope there won't be a hitch in the plans for Rebekah to go along with them to New York. Rachelle has great plans for the girl and she needs to experience what life is like outside her Amish existence. I have really enjoyed this. Great characterization and great story development. judi

Oh the rescuer has finally showed! Is this insanity near the end or has the mayhem just started? Can't wait to find out the answer. I am voting for more mayhem. :-)

You and Gretchen will soon be rescued now that your friend has arrived Rachelle. I love the quote as we love our visitors to leave as they can overstay their welcome sometimes. It sounds like another adventure will soon begin here, a fine chapter Rachelle, love Dolly x x x

who has a headful of dark ringlets and is leaning against the vehicle that's parked behind my Mercedes. (I can't wait to discover who this mysterious person is. You two are driving me crazy with my wild imagination.)

I love this story and am going to hate it when it ends.

As if someone opened the prison doors and screamed, "You are free!" It appears as if we have just scraped the surface of what will prove to a raukus good time -- at least for some. I enjoyed the story as usual. You keep the reader's attention from start to finish and toss in a smile or too for free.
Smiles, Carol
