This was a tender and soulful poem. Heartbreaking and sad. Then I read the author notes and I understood how this poem came to be. So sad that cancer not only took a child's life but destroyed a family as well. Thank you for sharing. Gretchen

A very sad, heartfelt and well constructed poem, using simple words and phrases to convey great emotions. I cannot say I enjoyed it, but only because of the subject... but technically it was well written.

Thank you, Steve, for your review. Clearly, there is some poetry that isn't to be used to entertain. -Bill

such a powerful and sad poem about a young man dying alone of cancer. I sense the pain, the pathos and the sorrow you felt watching him die of cancer at such a young age

I really liked the poem, but the authors notes gave it even more meaning! How sad that this young man's home life was not good in his last days. So glad he got to died in the care of those who truly loved him. Thanks for sharing this loveliness!

Whoa. Very deep and heart-breaking for sure, just in and of itself, let alone with the Author's Notes added in. You are one of the angels who walk among us. Thank you for all you do for those who need it most. I am so sorry for the toll that comes with being altruistic. xoxo

It is so sad for a young boy to die alone---without his parents near him. However, you are quite a man to give the boy some consolation during his last days. I wish you the best for the free-verse poem contest. I am sure he is smiling from up there for what you did for him.

Thank you for your review. Unfortunately, it failed to make it in the contest due to some administrative screw up. -Bill

You write with such beauty it rips my guts out. You have at least two callings that I know about. You help the dying and you write openly about it. Both huge gifts and sorrows. I send hope and joy your way. Karen :-)

This is heartbreaking. The despair and hopelessness comes through in your words, l can't imagine how that must feel. As a mom, l would never leave his side...what kind of parents would do that? Well written.

You ask a question that many of us who gave him a "home" asked many times. Thanks for the review. -Bill
