Thank you Nicole. life is about the good and the not so good. I thought it ended on a positive note. In first grade I made a friend and we can still talk of things we both remember.

We had recess (in the singular sounds better)
score of (c)hildren
showing he like(d) to pee outside
pointer (which she used to indicate...) maybe better than saying 'point' again

Omigoodness, Beth! This was SUCH a fun read! I loved being a fly on your Kindergarten wall here!!

It's so fascinating the vignettes that "stuck," isn't it? All these decades later, and they're still as vivid as vivid gets? This was my favorite:part:

She had also never been expected to keep quiet. She was destined to spend most of her first school year in the coat closet as punishment for talking.

HAHAHA. I remember classmates being sent to the "cloakroom" for bad behavior. (and peace for the teacher, I realize now, as a teacher myself!)

Here are a couple of spags to fix:

**Ther** were many tiny chairs and child-size desks...

For some reason, I was convinced that I was destined to be her favorites **either one of her favorites or her favorite**...

I was left with a score of **Children** (no capital there) chanting "Elizabeth loves...

She is one of the people who still **remain** (remains, because the subject is "one," and "remain" is plural.) in my circle, after all these years.

Everything else is fabulous! I honestly enjoyed this so very much and wish I'd saved a six for it.

Thank you Jess. A lot of things were different of kids of that generation but I guess the first day of school has things in common for everyone.
