I'm not sure this is a metaphor for life or an honest-to-gawd carnival ride, but if it's the latter, oh! how I can identify!! Usually, I love them, but one called The Gravitron made me feel exactly as this fabulous poem of your describes. My daughter was four and LOVED it - afterward, jumped up and down and exclaimed, "Mommy!! Let's go on that AGAIN!!" [to which I remember replying, "Um, Honey, Mommy needs to sit down on this bench and put her head between her knees for a few moments..."]

I also love the artwork you chose to accompany this delightful post! She definitely looks topsy turvy and quite unnerved!!

Good luck in the contest! xoxox

Hi Rachelle, thank you so very much for the kind review and comments. I loved your story about your daughter at only four years old. She sounds absolutely adorable, and I can truly relate perfectly to your story too.
    Thank you again, Rachelle.

A very fun entry for this contest. Your subject matter is something l can relate to, especially when i was younger. I was really engaged from the first line to the end. Best of luck in the contest.

Hi
This artwork matches the words well. The poem has a smooth meter and unforce abcb rhyme. It is a good description of how you feel in the middle of a conundrum or of bad times.
Good luck in the contest.
Keep writing and stay healthy.
Have a great rest of the weekend.
Joan

A very fun, if not dizzying, poem. lol I felt upside down through most of it and was glad to be upright again. My very favroite line:

There goes my spine, Patsy decline (clever!)

A really good entry for the Upside Down writing prompt. Good luck in the contest.

I love the cat picture. It certainly represents how one might feel about these inversion therapies. The poem is fun (even if the therapy is not), and the rhymes are excellent. It looks like there are some good entries in this contest. Good luck, Terry.

I liked this entry about upside down poem contest. I like the image chosen of a cat on the inversion table flipping up and down as the world flips around him

Well you've certainly fulfilled the brief here with, not only an eye-catching image, but a vivid and animated personification of that very disorientated cat! This is humorous and a delightful read in your rhyming quatrains. And interesting about that inversion table as I have one which I tell myself is improving my back condition (also underwent spinal surgery twice so a big ask). An excellent entry for the contest and a strong contender! Take care Debbie

hi Deb, the reason why they won't let me be on our teeter is because I have so much hardware in my back. So I don't know why they would allow you to use it and not me but that is just what my spine surgeon told me. I have other issues and have hardware throughout my body. Thanks for the fun review for my poem and lol I may have overexaggerated the feelings of it, but that was the part of the contest . haha!
reply by Debbie D'Arcy on 26-May-2024
I actually had the hardware taken out on the second op. So that may explain the difference. But I would have thought your metalwork would make you stronger and more resilient.

They are wanting to do more surgery and I won't let them, being so much older, as the last one was in 2010. But there is a possibility that it has shifted in my back. I can't handle more than five minutes on my feet so they did an mri and they can't see much of a change, but there is a slight one for sure. That might be it. LOL, I get sick when my legs on my bed are up and my head is down so I guess they probably wouldn't work for me anyway.

I sometimes wonder if it was a good idea having my metalwork removed. It was one of those braces put around a couple of lumbar vertebrae. But I had a lot of daily pain down my left leg and opted to have it removed because one doctor thought the metalwork was broken. After removal, the pain went for a couple of years but has come back with a vengeance over the last 4 years. I guess the less you interfere with the back the better. Personally, I think you're right to steer clear of further surgery if you can. But I really empathise.

I do you too. Now I can no longer be on my feet for more than five minutes because it wants to put me down the pain is so severe. But there was a time that my legs wouldn't work either and surgery did help them. So once before I was in a wheelchair for ten years.

I agree, no more. The first one I was in a mini coma for two days and my family was distraught. So fourteen years later and turning seventy this year, I am afraid now of the major ones with that much anesthesia. I will pray for yours as I pray for my own. I hate to see a friend suffer. God bless, Debbie.

Oh my this is a great entry for the upside down contest. I'm feeling a bit upside myself these days. You're rhyming scheme is spot on and theme is pure fun! I'll be watching for you in the contest, mystery poet. (Patsy Decline is too much!) Hahahaha!
Sending you my best today as always, and my best wishes in the upcoming vote.

Hi Sally, did you read the ending of the poem, but perhaps don't know what an iinversion table is? it is like a teeter totter that you lie on and they tip you upsid down and they are quite popular to help with many ailments. My husband has one but I can?t use it because of having spine surgeries and hardware in my back.

But he swears by it. But LOL, I?d be so sick cause I don't like being upside down. So it really is a thing. Thanks for the fun review, my friend.

Yes, dear poet. I've been on an inversion table and it's no fun. It takes some time to feel right side up too. But, It is supposed to align the spine. Hey, it beats surgery, so why not give it a whirl? My best in everything!

Lol I love the picture and the title! I feel like this can either be interpreted as a fun and indulgent night out or having a little bit too much fun with a spinny chair! Either way it's fun and I appreciate it.

An excellent poem, it's very quirky and it sounds like it's perfect for this contest, sometimes this poem reflects a lot of the things we all need to know, this is beautifully written, well done, good rhyming, flow and language, blessings Roy
