I was thinking of you when I was writing this because you?ve told me you enjoy fish. I do owe you a special post with a fish dinner. Do you like bronzino?

Dolly, thank you as always for reading and sharing. I appreciate it highly.

This sounds absolutely yummy, John. Bacala is basically a fish salad, which is made up of a lot of yummy stuff. But it was a fish salad. I really enjoyed all of the main ingredients and the different names of it. Very well done and greatly enjoyed. Blessings n Peace!!!

Thank you so much for the detailed instructions. Your love of cooking is clear and when I read a reference to your Italian heritage, that suddenly became much clearer for me. You Italians are culinary champions! :)

I have never tasted this dish and have clearly never lived! It sounds wonderfully Mediterranean with your inclusion of black olives, peppers and anchovies, all complemented with a very refreshing glass of chilled white wine! Thanks for sharing a small taste of your seasonal tradition, John! Love it! Merry Christmas! Debbie

I also like the addition of a couple of teaspoons of capers to it. But I wanted to keep it simpler.

Thank you, Debbie for a great review followed with all them stars. I you happen to make a small batch, let me know how it turns out.

P.S. - I also like my Guinness with it?
    Cheers,

Christmas in your home is, inevitably, an extravaganza of culinary delights, only interrupted by some sparkling humour and perhaps a refill!

I never knew that boxed, salted codfish had another name. We have an old family tradition passed down through we don't know how many generations using the salted cod fish. It is served as 'creamed codfish on toast' for Christmas breakfast. We have to special order the fish at the market since it is not carried as part of their normal stock. We often get questioning looks. 'What do you mean salted codfish in a wooden box?'
Those wooden boxes are so cute that I wish they didn't have such a strong fish smell, but it is best to just toss them since there is no way to get that fish smell out of them.
We've never made anything else from this codfish, but now you've given me another option. Yum.

Hmph? creamed codfish on toast. Interesting. My mother used to use the thinner, tail end pieces and make a "tuna fish salad" looking bacala salad.

Memories? thank you for reading and sharing.

Wonderful, I love this and I will definitely make this recipe. I only have one thing to say so there's no misunderstanding. Bacalao in Spanish means cod. That is to say fresh cod. The fish you take out of the ocean. The salted variety is Bacalao Salado.. A whole different kettle of fish, so to speak. It is simply cod marinated in an abundance of salt. Done in the old days to preserve it. Still sold, I don't know why and has to to be watered out over several days before you can use it. Ulla:)))

Thank you, Ulla. I?m guessing then that Salado means salt in Spain?
I made a couple of tweaks to my post based on what you told me. I really appreciate it. You would know best, you live there.
    I?m grstefull.

Hi John, sal means salt, salado is the adjective. So, bacalao Salado is salted cod. Cheers and Merry Christmas to you and family. Ulla:)))
