What a cutting perspective on the damage war wreaks upon the young. Whatever hopes and dreams she might have had are now in grave danger. Yet she clings to them. Touching and sad.

It is difficult to imagine how much fear and dread these poor children must be facing now. Hugging that stuffed animal offers some small comfort, but for these children, homes are gone, maybe even family members. The future is uncertain. Let's hope they can survive.

It is beyond heartbreaking , what is happening in Gaza. This poem touched me. The picture complements your poem perfectly and so well chosen. Very well written. I especially like your use of the word ' carnage' . Very powerful. I wish you the very best in the contest. With kind regards.

This is very profound a statement on the war going on in the Gaza Strip. I love the alliteration of collateral carnage and chill winds and the ending that says, she clings to torn dreams. Heavy and serious in its quiet sadness this piece shows all who care that it doesn't matter which side a child is on.

It always comes down to this. The babies slain, the children killed or maimed or orphaned. In the name of religion, politics, or retribution.
What sins are upon their souls that they must bear the burden of mankind's inability to embrace humanity?
Tears in my eyes...

I look at that little girl and my heart breaks. It shouldn't be! She should be enjoying her stuffed animals, hugging them and loving them, not trying to feel as if that's the last thing in her life as you wrote, torn dreams.
It's a shame the world is the way it is.
Great three line poem, Debbie.

Excellent senryu for the 3 Line Poetry Contest. You capture the horror of war, especially when it involves innocent children. It's heartbreaking.
I like the presentation too. Concrete images easy to visualize.
Good syllables count and connection between lines.
Good luck!
I appreciate your writing talent. Well done!

Debbie... so much can be taken just from the picture that accompanies this short poem. I've shed tears watching the news lately when they show these poor innocent children being affected from the travesty of war. I pray for them and for peace to soon arrive.

It is especially heartbreaking to hear about what was done to scores children and infants in the past month. Their deaths, however, were not collateral damage since they were intentionally targeted by the killers. Such treatment of innocents is unfathomable.
You have written a striking three lines for the contest that cause readers to pause and think further about what is happening in this day and age.
