I do believe that everyone has the right to believe in what they want without being berated for it. Faith provides a great deal of comfort to many people and their beliefs have helped them in times of trouble and we need to respect that which I think you do. When there have been stories of abuse of children by the clergy it has harmed the church as people are appalled. There is a great deal of comfort to be derived from nature as we see it strive and survive. I enjoyed your post and wish you well for the contest, few people on Fanstory will share your view point and your post is very brave, love Dolly x x x

Thanks very much, Dolly. Many of the people you speak of I call friends, so it wouldn't pay to disrespect them. We don't treat our friends that way, or shouldn't, no matter what their beliefs :) Cheers, Craig

Naturally,I resonate with this, being of the same mind as you on this subject. But it isn't just that, this is well-written. You have captured the beauty of the world which can still be seen without needing to know someone made it - 'There's grandeur in the sunrise ...'
Good rhythm, reads well aloud. Good one, cobber.

It's great to find there's still some writers like you here! Was gutted to find Humpwhistle has left.

While I disagree about some things you have written, I think your poem is outstanding. It is clear, well expressed, and the progression and development of thoughts are both excellent. This is quality poetry. Your notes are excellent too. (I am in full accord about organised religion and the hypocrisy which often accompanies it, but I don't want to throw out the baby with the bathwater.) Nevertheless, a great poem, and I don't give out my sixes too freely. Best wishes for the contest.

Thanks so much for the wonderful comments and the lovely stars, Wendy. I know you don't agree with much of the content, and I'm also aware you don't affix a six to everything you read, so that makes it even more special. Best to you, Craig.

I don't believe sixes should only be given to people with whom we agree, it should always be based on the quality of the writing. I respect the opinions of others, for me that's important.
To me, your poem was very worthy. I often see junky poems being awarded sixes simply on the basis of friendships, and to me that's inappropriate.

Great poem! Love the mono rhyme stanzas... Very nicely presented! As a fine writer who used to be a member here once pointed out, there's A giant difference between "churchification" and faith/belief.

"Occam's razor indicates that the simplest explanation -- that is, the solution that requires the fewest assumptions -- is preferable."

No question a lot of hocus pocus religion is a scam...

Faith isn't.

You have a perfect right to believe what you do!

Seems to me it's the folks with ALL the answers who are the first to create divisiveness.

May your beliefs comfort you as my own comfort me...

Karenina

We are agreed on that, Karenina. I'd go further and state that anyone with all the answers is terribly misguided. I really appreciate your thoughtful comments, and your support in reviewing :) Craig

You write so well, and you make me think! (Never a bad thing!)

I'm with you on the "terribly misguided" comment...

Seems we have a LOT of them these days!

Hi there,

Very nice piece indeed, CD.

It's probably not going to be a popular opinion on site but who gives crap about that. It's getting that you can't say anything these days.

Organised religion is a complete scam, I have no doubt, and I say that as I once deeply religious sort of fellow. Faith is a funny thing. Blind faith even worse, even when 'the truth' gets cherry-picked.

Expressed very eloquently here and the rhythm and flow of the poem are spot on as far as I can tell.

Good stuff

Thanks so much, GMan. I'm happy that even though so far, I've only had a few reviews, a couple are from people who I know for sure have a different opinion, but they've been generous in their comments. That could change, of course! Your remarks are very encouraging, and I truly appreciate the lovely stars, as I know you don't part with them easily! Cheers, Craig

You've made a beautiful presentation here with a good poem of perfect meter and rhyme. You and I have had discussions, so you know I am reviewing on the merit of your writing. I wish you luck in the contest, my friend. Good to see you writing again.
