You are engaged in a great project, Barb. I'm sure that your letters will be treasured by the girls. That was a nice little aside with Elleanor Ruth. It sounds like she is going to be a handful.

Thatr will be lovely for you to be there for them, in a different role for each. It's often the case that the younger ones end up respecting and imitating the older ones, so your Elli may settle with time. In my son's family the eldest girl is strong and will argue her case loudly, the second one is equally strong but quietly works out how to get her own way without getting into trouble. The third girl is different again. Hard to be a parent and have wisdom for each one. Re your letter, the main thing is that each one willingly consecrates her life, her strengths and her gifts to Jesus as Lord, to be used by and for Him.

That second child always comes out with a totally different spirit animal. Lol. Maybe ask the five year old what they want for themselves and see how it differs from your view as an adult. Have fun being grandma. Gretchen

Enjoy your trip. We'll be here waiting to hear all about it. The girls do seem really different from each other. That happens sometimes. They're very young yet, so who know will be next on their agenda?

Hello Barbara,
As a father of seven, I can attest to the fact that all the kids will have different personalities. It seems that the first child often has the advantages that the others following don't. Of course they suffer the mistakes of the parents, being the first child also. All the children afterwards have to compete for the parents attention. I think you'll have a better idea of what to write when you return. I hope that the time together is memorable in all the right ways.
Have a blessed day gal.

Don't worry. You have all the time in the world. The girl's aren't going to be growing up so very fast for you to give them the letters, and we will wait patiently whilst you visit with all your family. kay

I hope you have a wonderful time with your grandchildren! I know you miss them and I'm so glad you Zoom regularly! Yes, siblings are completely different. And the eldest is usually the responsible and compliant one - at least, that's how it was for my kids.
Suggestion in case you haven't already fixed:
Charlotte, age 5, is turning into a very good athletic (athlete)
Have a great trip!!

All grown ups instantly get the import of 'Elleanor Ruth!' portentously uttered. It is a final warning just prior to annihilation - or the equivalent for a three-year-old. As you say, she is 'a free spirit'! She would probably make me laugh more than Charlotte. [maybe a typo - 'athlete' for 'athletic'?]
A matter of fact account filled with care and common sense - that Elleanor 'needs a good lawyer, and Grandma fits the bill' is a lovely and wise opinion - adding that 'Charlotte needs Grandma's hugs' to make sure that both girls get the same treatment - and no preference.
Aren't these girls both so lucky to have a Grandma like you. They will read these accounts for the rest of their lives, and never forget you, Barbara.
Love from Paul

Barbara, to know what your wishes for your granddaughters are, you definitely need input from them. Maybe you want to see them realize their dreams; maybe, in some cases, you think they should go in a different direction. I think it will all become so much clearer when you do have one-on-one time with them.
Don't pressure yourself with this - you have time to think about what you REALLY want to say - take the time, because when they do finally read your letters, they should mean the world to these girls. And they will:-)
Enjoy your time away.
