Always so much guilt and regret when loved ones die. I still fell guilty about my mom and we didn't have any problems, just wish I'd spent more time with here. She was a great lady. I hope you can forgive yourself. I'm sure he knew you loved him. Hope you do well in the contest.

Roxanna, you are so very sweet. You sound like me with my mom. At least I knew that she was dying and spent every minute in hospitals and dr appts with her, and my husband and young children didn't mind as it was so I wouldn't have to go thru the guilt later. She was only in her fifties when Pancreatic cancer took her, but like you, I miss her like crazy. Just as I do my brother. This was a lot harder to write than what I thought it was going to be.

Thank you so very much for your compassionate review and kind words. My thoughts are with you too as you are reminded of how much you miss your mom. And thanks a million for the gracious six stars. It is so appreciated, my dear friend.

The emotion of remorse is very strong. It can blot out the sun for the whole of your life! Here the writer, while bewailing the death which he feels he caused, is interlaced with a kind of chorus - perhaps said to himself, or another third party (perhaps a girl who won't commit) - but the juxtaposition of longing and remorse is very powerful.

The theme of the young accident or suicide victim runs deep in popular American culture (especially in the music) and here the writer's younger brother dies still unforgiven for past wrongs. That this was never resolved is a bleeding wound that will not heal.

The writer finishes with a plea to the unknown partner to commit to love, before it is 'too late'. The poem is tragic and poignant. The message clear.
Well written.
Paul

Hi Paul. It told in my notes, but maybe it isn't real clear as this poem was much harder to write than I initially thought. All of the two line verses are actually a plea to the reader, not to let this kind of emotions keep you from telling your loved ones that you love them. I see it too often and I had dealt with some heavy stuff from my brother, who I had always been close to, so I didn't want to be fooled again by a lie. Well instead he was in an accident and was killed. And I never had the chance to tell him how much I did love him. Still I cannot write the words without tears. And it has been 15 years since he left us.
So thank you so much for your kind words dear Paul. I appreciate it so very much. And I am the sister, and have forgiven, but too late. (Choking tears back)
    Thanks again, my friend.

    Thank you.
    I am so sorry.
    You have to forgive yourself.
God certainly understands and forgives you.

You can hear the pain and sincere regret in the emotional words of this poem. The message is powerful. Forgiveness most helps the person holding the grudge, and forgiveness pleases God. You have effectively communicated this beautifully in rhyme. Best wishes in the contest.

Lorraine, I thank you so very much for your compassionate review and kind words. This was actually a lot harder than I thought it would be, as revisiting is hard. Losing siblings is really hard, as you all too well know. So I thank you again, my dear friend.

Wow. This poem is as lovely and heartfelt as it is heartbreaking.
Say I love you.
Don't wait.
Tomorrow may just be too late.
It is as if you have more than one running line for it to also feel like the same story
But. yeah. the uncertainties of what life holds
and what might be in store for tomorrow
plagued with unpredictabilities
I guess it's hard to know

Thanks for taking the time to share. And good luck with the contest!
It is definitely a flurry of emotions
A poem well done.

I presume that the emotion that you have picked is guilt as that certainly shines through in this poem. The repetition is good as is the rhyming and the poem reads well when read out loud.
I wish you al the best in the contest

Lovely, heart touching poem, poet friend. Indeed, we need to say these three powerful words every day. They're life changing when we do; regretted when we withhold them.

Beautifully penned and illustrated for this prompt.

Sending you my best today as always, and my very best wishes for the upcoming contest.

This is tragic dear friend, it's such a tragedy, I know that folk who leave short accounts are the wise ones, but sometimes it's just simply difficult to let resentment go, but that accident did not leave you with the opportunity.to truly reconcile. It's obviously a blind contest, but I think I know who this is, but tribulation makes a better person of us, your humility is obvious, beautifully written, good luck DG, blessings Roy
