Good one, Wendy! This is what so many of us often wish would happen when we experience this on the road. "Where is a cop when you need one?" we ask. This would have me cheering:-)

Nice surprise ending. Good luck.

Pam

Thank you Pam. Also for the good wishes. I am glad you enjoyed it. Most of us have had to put up with aggressive or intimidating drivers when we try to do the right thing, at one time or another.

Hi Wendy,
When I was young, I owned a 1969 Dodge Coronet 500. It had a 318 cu. in. motor that had a lot of power. Today, they could be worth $36,000 or much more. I drove fast, but never intimidating anyone.
As I grew older, I slowed down. I owned cars that embarrassed my kids. For example, I owned a 1977 Chrysler Cordoba once. I loved it! When Herb Tarlek (sales manager at "WKRP in Cincinnati") talked about getting a raise from Mr. Carlson, he would label it by saying "We're talking Cordoba!". I loved that TV comedy. (Herb, Frank Bonner, passed away at age 79 on June 16th, 2021 from complications of Lewy body dementia.) Anyway, getting back to my silvery-grey Cordoba with a mauve-colored vinyl roof, I'd drive my kids to school, and they'd duck down so their friends wouldn't see them! Imagine! LOL.
But now, to your story.
This past winter, I was driving home one day, maintaining the speed limit (which our fair city has lowered to the extreme to make it real easy for the police ... 50 km/hour max), and this guy behind me is just getting angrier and angrier. I couldn't blame him. But I'm a law-abiding citizen now! Anyway, he finally passed me, across a solid single yellow line. Then, to my great surprise, he put the brakes on! I had to come to a complete stop! I was flabbergasted!
There are never any cops around when someone does something like that, or when someone takes off like a bat out of hell! I have to admit, though, 50 km/hr is a bit ridiculous!
I enjoyed your story. It hit home.
Good Luck in the contest!
Hugs,
Kimbob

Thank you for sharing. Here, if a cop saw him doing that he would get a hefty fine for intimidation. Here all our towns have 50 km/hr limits. During school drop off and pick up times it?s down to 40 km/hr!
Thanks so much for reviewing. I appreciate it.

It's 30 km/hr for school zones here, Wendy. But I don't mind that. We have to keep the kids safe. But I think 60 km/hr is slow enough on a regular city road. It just makes things easy for the police to grab some easy fines at the end of the month. Nobody is going to drive 50 km/hr... except nuts like me!

Oooops! Picked on the wrong gal.
Nicely written. Good work.
Intimidatory - Is that a word downunder? I think our equivalent might be 'intimidating'.
Good luck in the contest.

Thanks so much for your review and good wishes. Yes, it is an adjective (and is in the various dictionaries eg Oxford, Collins) as below.
    intimidatory: adjective
(formal) Examples: intended to frighten or threaten somebody
    "intimidatory tactics", "intimidatory interrogation techniques".

Curious. It's not in my Merriam-Webster

Wendy,
Excellent contest entry.

Minimal word count and a good use of only essential words as required in flash fiction.
Great final line for the twist-
"She smiled. He didn't."

Unknown to him she was an officer of the law in an unmarked vehicle. He got what he had coming to him... a hefty fine and a day in court!

Nicely done,
Cheers.
John

That's the best outcome for that kind of driver! And I wish every time those aggressive drivers drive like that some unmarked police car would ticket them! Best wishes in the contest!

A nice little surprise, Wendy. Years ago, I would have been the impatient driver, but as I got older, I was not in as much of a hurry. We are going to be competitors in this one. Good luck.

Lol. Better not to be in too much of a hurry, or at least to be a bit more polite about it. You haven't posted yours yet? I'll be looking forward to seeing it, and I wish you success too. What about we come a tie? Thanks so much for reviewing. Always appreciated.

Ha ha ha, I just love the sweet revenge in this short write. How satisfying to catch the culprit in the act and be able to fine them on the spot! Loved your neat finish here Wendy, a clever piece of writing, love Dolly x

Thanks so much Dolly. My husband witnessed such an event a few years ago, but with a male police officer! Glad you enjoyed it.

This was a well-written short short story. I didn't re-count words, so I assume your count is accurate. I thought it read well. We all love an underdog gets the ultimate justice plot. The only suggestion I have is to take everything out of italics until you get to the part that says the offenses: Unmarked police car. Fines for intimidatory driving, body part outside vehicle, obscenity, and speeding. That part could be in italics for emphasis' sake. And then maybe go back to regular font again.
