Funny but not funny Wendy and I enjoyed your inventiveness here as your back went whilst burying your dog. I expect people's gardens are full of dead animals, our cat is buried in the garden of my daughter's previous home. Evidently the Chinese think it is bad luck to bury an animal near your home. I hope your bac recovered! Love Dolly x x x

Thank you so much Dolly. I have found it quite wonderful to know she is still close. My back is fine, thank you, apart from the general wear and tear of having lived a few decades!!

This is a very good story, and I wish you the best in the contest. I hope you have gotten your wallet or your phone back with all the papers or if you haven't that you've been able to resolve everything so that you don't suffer a great deal of wash. Patricia.

No phone or cards yet. I will see about a new phone and cards on Monday. By then it will be a full week. Meanwhile I have ordered a replacement bank card. Thank you for the review and good wishes for the contest.

Nicely written.
What an ordeal! Even if most of it was fiction, it must have been an ordeal.
(That's a funny word, ordeal.) (Whenever I say something like that to my wife she accuses me of using marijuana, which I never have!)
Good luck in the contest.

Most of it was actually true (I didn't really hurt my back - that was just for the contest!) Today marks the fourth anniversary. Thanks so much for the nice review.

As you know, last May my bff Buddy passed on physically but came and visited for about a month. Guess he had a difficult time breaking his habits like waking me with a breath to my sleeping head at 6:30 a.m. then again at ten for his walk and
Once more after our soap opera ended at two o'clock.
I even heard his paws running the wood hallway
Then, he was

Thank you Tom. I hope this story didn't awaken the grief again. I did shed a few tears as I wrote it. Today is the anniversary - four years!

I loved reading this story... written so well with non-maudlin tenderness of love for a dog and the preparations to honour her as a beloved family member. Having your back go out at such a crucial time was certainly no laughing matter... nor for your husband having to shovel all that soil by himself. I was trying to work out what were the fictional additions... it all worked together very well as storytelling.

(It seems that sorrow and chuckles can attend the same scene - such as happens when ashes are solemnly scattered out of a plane only to come rushing back in to cover the chuckling mourners... ''We're licking granddad off our faces'')

Thank you so much for a super review - and also for the honoutr of a six star rating. Much appreciated!! Yes you are right re the emotions - I think the control of them tends to be a bit fragile at such times and they can lurch in either direction. (The fictional bit was about hurting my back - that was just to meet the requirements of the contest. I did help with shovelling the soil into the wheelbarrow and taking it to her tub).

I cried as I read this - it was so moving! My condolences on the loss of your dog. It's very hard to lose an animal - I lost several, and can share your pain.

First - this was extremely well written with the hand of a master.

It's a bit unusual with the method of burial, but she will be close to you. Are you all right after your back went out? I hope everything is fine; been there, done that and back pain is all too familiar.

This was extremely moving. I am still trying to compose myself. I hope she rests in peace in the dog heaven.

Thank you so much for your wonderful review. Thank you, my back is fine (that bit was the fictional bit, just for the contest. The rest is true, and today I remember and honour my precious Honey).

We have owned and been blessed by four dogs, the fifth is only four years old and as a small dog could still be here in 12 years time. We've only got one buried in the back yard, the rest were cremated. Beautifully written Wendy, blessings Roy
