Terry, this is a powerful piece with an important topic. It hit a little too close to home for us as we have no family close by and they too are seniors.
Well-written and thought provoking piece.
Best regards,
Mary

Good piece of writing. You are right, it raises the question of how well the seniors living alone are monitored these days. I didn't understand too much who were speaking in the conclusion.
Well done!!

I enjoyed the read immensely. So well written Terry with authentic dialogue. The ending twist is fabulous with a great set up and yet so sad when one takes a step back and realises that sadness of being alone at the end. What a great practical suggestion you mention in your notes. Hopeful FS family can also be that check for you too! I am sure any absence of your writing would be missed here and we would want to check up on you! I love the way I see people checking on others. What a great community I feel lucky to have entered into. Know you are appreciated and valued!

Hi Terry, I do live alone...but I do have
a family...for some older folks they just
won't reach out to others...my father was
like that...
my mother had a life support necklace on...
but she kept pushing the button every time
she woke up...she said no one would talk to her...
most of the time...no one know she was even awake...
whoever said growing old was your Golden years...
had to of been 40 years old...or younger...
I love your story told my sweet friend...
very well written...love Linda xxoo

Terry, This is a very well written fiction story you have penned for the Alone Writing contest. You used very good descriptive words and very interesting imagery from the art work you chose. Thank you for sharing and best wishes in the contest. Teri

Terry, this is an excellent awareness story and told super entertainingly, to no surprise. Your cognitive abilities no doubt supersede a higher percentage of the folks that live alone and aren't checked regularly. I have a friend in his eighties who wears an alert mechanism around his neck. It definitely is peace of mind for his family and friends. Best, JohnC

This is a powerful story about a problem that is affecting more and more people as our aging population grows due to medical advances. Thanks for the information about Snugsafe. We have a tenant who named my husband as his executor as he has no one else. We will tell him about
Snugsafe. Have a blessed New Year.

Unfortunately there are so many people who stop showing up and several days pass before their absence is noticed. Then it's usually too late. Sometimes I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed, so am I correct in assuming the old man committed suicide and knew it wouldn't be investigated? That's what I got from the last part. Good story but sad. Gretc

You did a great job, Terry, with your post. It was well-organized
and covered an important topic. Yes, our elderly are mostly
forgotten. There are several ways to help, and the app you
referenced sounded great. Your words flowed smoothly and
created great imagery. The twist at the end made me think it
was planned by the one who died and the 'we' in the lines, or
maybe they were just aware of the plans but couldn't do anything
to prevent it as you stated.
Thanks for sharing, Jan

You give us much to think about. I got a Medical Alert thingy for my mom but she won't wear the darn thing. So thanks for letting us know about the snugsafe app. Your story is also a great public service, too.
I can say I know of one Fanstory member who sent in the troops to check on another who lives alone. So friendships here also have made a difference!
