There's no greater treasure than a brilliant teacher - one who not only imparts the relevant knowledge (that's a given) but inspires and encourages at the same time. I think it's a complicated role - as much sales-person and entertainer as anything else, and it sounds as though Barbara was exceptional :-)

Hello mystery writer a good day to you. I hope all is well. Thanks for sharing your story, I liked it, made me think of my favorite teacher. It was my English teacher from Highschool. Funny how you don't realize the impact someone has on your life until years later or after their gone. Good Job and good luck in the contest.

Thank you. I think the classes are probably so large now that it would be difficult for a teacher to give so much individual attention like Barbara did. She had a way of making learning exciting. Hugs

Good point. Still, I've encountered the likes of Barbara with my own children
and granchuldren, along the way. Thank God!

Thank you. Yep, I should have titled the story basement time but it is too late now. Kids today could definitely use some of it. They are so disrespectful and rude. Hugs.

Amazing story! Barbara sounds like she was an inspirational and fun teacher. I couldn't imagine having my cousin teach me. I love reading story's like this where I get to see a little piece of peoples life. keep writing!

I like the way you injected "chats in the basement," and I'm glad you told us it was a finished basement. The only story improvement suggestion I have is, you might add dialogue somewhere in your story. For instance, your brother Ken could say something to you on your way to school, like, "Walk faster." And you could respond. That's just a suggestion. Otherwise, great story, and I hope it does well in the contest.
