Another great chapter to read. The intrigue is growing. It seems someone is evil minded enough to stop their torture. Great job and looking forward to the next one. Have a great evening. Shirley

Ahhh, So Gwendolyn is agreeing to have Jenkins poison Richard. An evil plot, well conceived!

Joshua had known about the scandal that had prevented his friend's marriage, and helped keep the secret of their continued relationship. He had tried for years to get his friend to forget convention and marry Meg. [A very MINOR consideration, but does the reader really need to know this? It was made clear in their conversation.]

they spoke of where the wedding reception would take be held. [take?]

Well, done, my dear!

What a lovely profile picture, Jay. I had to double check the review was from you!!

Thank you so much fot this lovely review, and the golden star! I've changed that sentence, as you were so right, it was clear enough in the previous sentence. And I've removed the 'take'. I had started to change the wording, then changed my mind and accidently didn't remove the word. I'm so pleased you found it and pointed it out. You're a gem, my friend. Warm hugs, Sandra xxx

Richard is a pretty sorry excuse for a brother. He doesn't consider what he wants. He is determined to stop Meg's wedding, even if it means going to Lord Brandon. Miles is going to make sure the wedding will take place, regardless of what people think, and he has his best man at the ready. Wonder what Gwendolyn is up to at the end. Wonder what she has planned for Richard? Very suspenseful! judi

Thanks so very much for another lovely review, Judi. Richard is his own worst enemy. If you are nasty to people, you eventually take a fall. Thanks, my friend. Warm hugs. Sandra xx

Two very different scenes here. I guess something sinister is being plotted in the meal for Meg's brother, who in term is plotting something sinister for Meg. But the first scene between friends was happy and lighthearted. What is the common thread between these scenes is the loyalty of the servants: Joshua's servants who are keeping the party secret, and Gwendolyn's servant Jenkins who is allied with her in murder.
Well done post!

You've read this chapter perfectly, Helen. And you're right about the servants. Things will speed up a bit from here. Thanks for another lovely review, my friend. Warm hugs. Sandra xx

One forgets the appalling gap between the rich and poor, the titled and the untitled, I can remember it still existed in my day as a youth. Even between the sub levels of the working class, and to a degree, still, because I was relatively poorly educated, it happened to me, if it wasn't for my best friend's dad, I may have thought of myself like that, still! But you've done a good job in remembering those conditions then and examined it more fully, well done Sandra, blessings Roy

It was bad, back then, and still is in some places. Thank you so much for this lovely review, Roy, I'm glad you enjoyed it. Warm hugs, my friend. :)) Sandra xxx

Hi Sandra, first congratulations on your beautiful great-granddaughter! She is precious. I don't believe you can have a great-granddaughter because I know your granddaughter, Scout, is a young girl. I'm sure it was a typo, lol.
I loved this chapter showing more of Miles personality. It does make me sad that if Margot and Bessie were not interfering with the timeline, Miles loses the love of his life.
I'm rooting for Gwendolyn to succeed in poisoning the asshat of a husband she was forced to marry. I can't even imagine living in a society where you have to marry someone your family chooses because of your station in society. I have never studied royal lineage so the whole Lord, Duke, Earl titles confuse me. Like Prince William is a Prince but he also is the Duke of Sussex, I may have that name wrong. I also don't understand how or why some grandchildren are Prince or Princesses, but others aren't. I guess my knowledge of royalty is based on fairytales. Anyway I like the suspense for next week's chapter. I hope you have a lovely week. I'm starting physical therapy for a broken clavicle I suffered in a stupid accident in my house about three weeks ago. At least all the other bruised parts from the accident are much better so I'm not in any real pain unless I use my left arm, which I try to avoid. Take care! Sally

I am a great grandmother, my grandchildren range from 25 to 7. Scout is the youngest, and Maisie the eldest. Chloe is 22, her brother 14, and his cousin is 14 as well My sons are in their late 40s and mid 50s. Five of them. Yep, I'm old enough and so are they! 😂😭
Thank you so much for the sixth star, Sally, and your lovely review. Royalty is a complicated subject. Some royals don't want their children to be princes and princesses, but want them to grow up as normally as they can.
I'm so sorry to read you have had such a bad accident! Are you in much pain. My daughter-in-law has broken her ankle, and hate not being able to do things. You take care, and do what the doctors say. Love and hugs, my friend. :)) Sandra xx

Hi Sandra,

Well, a lot going on here as more of the players start to make their move, or at least begin to think about it.

Joshua seems an admirable fellow.

Excellent stuff

Hi Sandra, this was another lovely chapter. We get a bit of a breather in this chapter as Miles goes to his best friend, asking him to be the best man at the wedding planned for Christmas time. As usual it's wonderfully written.
I found two minor things:
After the butler had closed (the) sitting room door,

wedding reception would take be held = delete 'take'.
I so look forward to what's next. Gwendolyn has something wicked on her mind. A big hug. Ulla xxxx

Thanks so very much for finding those nits. I am always telling myself not to edit on here because I always make an error. I forgot to take the word out, and forgot to put one in! I need a darkened room. Thanks Ulla, and a bigger one for the lovely review and golden star! You're a gem! Warm hugs, my friend. :)) Sandra xx

It sounds as though Gwen and the Butler have a very special
meal planed for her husband. Just the thought of it increased her appetite. Richard has brought it on himself. You can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar any day. Well done, Sandra. Nancy:)xxx

Yes, it does sound like these two are up to some dastadly wicked mischief, doesn't it? Lol. I like your expression, and you're right. Thank you so much, Nancy, for this lovely review and the golden star. I really appreciate both. Warm hugs, dear friend. :) Sandra xx

This appears to be a pivotal chapter. I have not read the other chapters, but judging by this chapter, perhaps most of the other chapters are also pivotal. But at least in this chapter, much has occurred prior to it and much is to occur after it. There is much drama and much intrigue. I found myself rather riveted to what was happening, with all the relevant detail. Characters and their points of view are shown vividly, whether Lords and the like, or Commoners. Emotional intimacy grips me. Only so much is happening, that I feel pulled in opposite directions. Is this business necessary? I feel somewhat exhausted by it. Would a more gentle kindly nuanced approach be in order? Still, there is much good.

Hi Stuart, thank you so much for this review. I really apprecaite your candor. I realise coming into a story at this late stage can be confusing, but you actually did pick up on a good point. I keep reviews like this so that when it comes to the big edit, I can go over them with the suggestions. I had to smile at the, 'somewhat exhausted' 😊 it was a good description. I'll be making a few changes here now that you have mentioned it. Everything in this chapter is necessary for the plot, but I'm sure I can use it more effectively taken over a couple of chapters. Thank you so much for reading, and your excellent input. Warm hugs, Sandra xx
