You wrote this so well that I read through this story several times to get the full effect of the details described in this piece. You learned a valuable lesson and, one that many folks in FS can benefit from. Imagine, not only loving to write and read poetry but, having the same author as both of your favorites. You tell of joining the Air Force, and my dad joined the Air Force in WWII as well. I grew up on military bases until I was six years of age. Then, my dad retired and took a job at UCLA writing grants for professors. Anyway, I learned more about you and how you worked in auto assembly plants and then for city of Detroit...so I thought I would share a little about my dad.
He also was estranged from his father and I never met him, or was even allowed to mention him. I will never know who my paternal grandfather was and that is my loss.
I like how you tell the story of how you met your grandmother and, how you got along so well, that you published her written book about her vacation. Your author's notes were poignant as well, with the lesson we all should learn about not keeping children from their grandparents. Thank you for sharing your story and for letting me share.
Take care,
Jesse

You are so welcome. Since meeting my paternal grandmother, I have been introduced so so many relatives I cannot keep up with them all. I love and treasure them all and have received much love and respect in return.

As long as you have life anything is possible. Since meeting my grand mother I have discovered a rich and previously unknown rich family heritage dating back to the 1700s. That side of my family have been celebrating yearly family reunions since 1912. There is only one family with a record longer than ours.

Wow, that is amazing! I need to look up, my family heritage to see if there is a way, to get in touch with any of them.
    Have a good day,
    Jesse

Thank you Wendy. This is a story I have wanted to tell for some time. There are many teachable elements in it, and I am so pleased that I finally worked up the courage to put it down in writing.

What a neat story of discovery, nomi. That had to be a watershed moment in your life for sure. Saving your grandmother's book was a classy move and well done.
