They may have been a bit fiction, but I volunteered with a woman who lived it - and it was horrifying...hiding in caves, trying to find food for her children. You took me to her - though she visits from our heavenly Kingdom. You are very down to earth with it all - which reminds me that no matter what horror we go through, we come out the other side.

Thank you for your excellent and very meaningful review, Sherry. Now I see how our paths crossed! I saw the message I received, and I thank you for becoming my fan; you are a lovely person.
Yes, "The Sound of Music" was a fictional musical, but I have learned, since posting my little poem, that the movie was based on a real family who escaped Austria, except not in the manner portrayed in the movie -- and their story also differed from that of Hollywood's von Trapps, in many important respects. Many, many families and individuals went through untold horrors during WW2, and some didn't come out intact, either as families or as individuals; many didn't make it out of Nazi-dominated Europe alive, as history also tells us. It is a long and dark history, which only God has recorded in its entirety. You were privileged to volunteer for one such soul, and I am sure you will never forget the things she shared with you. I'm sure she was grateful for your help. The time has almost passed, and the door is closing; soon our opportunity to know these brave survivors will be no more.
Yet Julie Andrews and her seven charges are immortalized on the hills of Austria, on film, and we see a brighter picture of the life that is available to people unhindered by fascist oppression, and other evils that hinder the human spirit. It gives us a hopeful vision of what is possible when love triumphs over hate. I'm very happy to know you, Sherry, and hope you will enjoy a blessed Christmas weekend, and a safe and Happy New Year.

Now comes the time to help the victims of this time. The written word is very powerful...

That's for sure, Sherry. There's no time like the present. God has given us a gift to be used for His Kingdom -- and He is all about love.

Happy Merry Christmas dearest friends of mine and let's always think positive and pray for the better side of our life! This Haiku Movie Review writing prompt entry is perfectly structured throughout its 5/7/5 syllables counting and simply beautiful narrative movie story lined content about Sissy's brothers and sisters living in complete freedom under the direction of her humble generous mother and bowling drinking father. Great work and I have appreciated it completely. I suggest the dropping of the initial capital letters and punctuation.Leave only one dash instead of two at the end of the first line.

Dearest Tony! Since the contest is over, I don't have to be anonymous anymore. Thank you for your spectacular review, and the generous six stars.
I took your suggestions and dropped most of the capitals and punctuation. The double dash was actually supposed to be an M-dash (long dash), but if I put an M-dash in there, the system would have changed it into something quirky, with strange characters. An M-dash is the length of two hyphens, so that was the best I could do.
Your reference to a movie about Sissy was also what made me finally decide to put the movie's actual title in the Notes, "The Sound of Music," because although many people realized which movie I was referring to, you apparently didn't, possibly because it may not have been shown as much in Italy as it was in some English-speaking countries.
The heroine of the movie was named Maria, a governess, not the mother of the children; the father was a military captain, not a drunkard; Maria, the governess, would later fall in love with the captain and eventually married him, but I don't think that happened yet, in the movie.
All of this happened to the von Trapp family according to the movie, but I am told that there was a real von Trapp family in Austria, and their real story was somewhat different from the version we are told in the movie. That's Hollywood!
Thank you again for your exceptional review, my dear friend, and I hope you and your family enjoyed a most beautiful Christmas together, and I pray that God will keep you all safe and blessed in the New Year. Hugs, Mary Kay

The Sound of Music! I saw that film so many times when it first came out, it was lovely. We went there for a holiday two years ago and it is as pretty as the picture. Well done with your Haiku Movie contest entry, you have chosen your words well. Good luck! Have a lovely Christmas day! :)) Sandra xx

Thank you so much for your beautiful review, Sandra. We might be around the same age, because I also saw the movie repeatedly, when it first came out -- I was a young schoolgirl, and my mother and grandfather were generous in bringing me and my brother to the movie theater a lot, especially for something so spectacular (Mary Poppins was the other favorite). I can only imagine how lovely it is to see the actual hills of Austria! May God bless you and give you a beautiful Christmas weekend, and keep you safe throughout the New Year.

Hi Mystery Author,
This is a great entry for the contest. Of course, the movie is "The Sound of Music" with Julie Andrews. The hills are alive! The 1965 movie won Oscars for Music, Best Picture, Film Editing, Sound, and Directing.
The 5-7-5 syllable count is correct. A "pretty governess", "Seven children", and "living hills"... impossible to accomplish a better review for this movie. Well done! Good Luck in the voting!
Merry Christmas!
Cheers,
Kimbob

That's a great summary of the Sound of Music. That was truly an international favorite! And I liked how you worded that first line "The hills are alive" to "living hills." Best wishes in the contest!

Yes, thank you, Helen, we had a quiet Christmas, talked to a few people from among our family and friends, and spent some time enjoying Christmas music on TV; I spent some time in touch with people we know on social media, exchanging Christmas wishes. My husband gave me some Christmas gifts (I had already given him his), and we're looking forward to our Zoom Worship service on Sunday.
Jorge gave some toy cars to the kids downstairs and they were SO HAPPY.
Hugs to you, too. God bless you and your family. Love, Mary Kay xoxo

My ancestors came from Austria several generations ago and it was heart warming to see the photograph and read your well constructed Haiku. Don and Vicki.

Thank you, Don and Vicki, for your excellent review, and for the five stars. If your ancestors left Austria several generations ago, they may have left at a critical time, and I'm glad they did -- yet it is a beautiful land! May God bless you and your family, and keep you safe now and throughout the New Year. Hope you're enjoying a blessed Christmas.
