Dear JLR, this is a wonderful contribution to your Picture This club, even though it sad that the at the end, you had to remind us that this Christmas will be different no matter how many Christmas trees we decorate or stockings we hang by the fire.
You have chosen an excellent title for this poem.

The following two sentences bring up my anguish feelings too.

These are: "Silent Night ready for all to share gifts made ready, bows and ribbons here and there" and "... we drop a tear, our grandchildren due to Covid can't come this year!"

Let's hope the vaccines will help kill the coronavirus and everything will be back to the old normal.

My house is decked in lights and trimmings but there will be no visitors this year, but I did it all to please myself as I love Christmas with all the trimmings. I felt the emotion in your words here and I am sorry your grandchildren can't visit you, a fine write for this club picture, love Dolly x

You did a good job with your challenge poem. I enjoyed reading it although it is so poignant. I like the way the lines rhyme in order in each verse throughout your poem. You create a sense of longing for your family as they won't be able to gather. The picture is beautiful-I know it was part of the club challenge--but still it is beautiful. Your words flow smoothly with great imagery.
Respectfully, Jan

A very well-written poem and an excellent interpretation of the picure this challenge. It is sad that we cannot celebrate Christmas with our children and grandchildren this year.

I can relate to your words. Most of my family will not be getting together for Christmas this year. Your poem reflects our current times and your poem has a feeling of sadness that all of us feel. Your words fit the picture perfectly.

Sending you a virtual hug! Know that this shall all be but memories we will be able, down the road, say, I remember when....

I enjoyed your rhyming scheme abba...acc. It's full of nostalgia and emotion. You paint a vivid picture with carefully chosen words. And there's a story arc within this poem too - from happy anticipation, to the sadness of family separated in these times. Very effective!

This poem, Bedecked, But For Naught, presented in four tercets, finds this Christmas's typical scene of a holiday where we can't be together. Merry Christmas the best you can.

This shall pass and the Christmas will regain the joy and happiness as before:"We sit at the ready, the lists all rechecked
rocking together, we reminisce of memories that flare,
when into the warm hearth we both suddenly stare.

With the feeling of anguish, we both suspect
crashes in waves as we drop a tear,
our grandchildren due to Covid can't come this year!" Thank you for sharing and good luck with your writings. Merry Christmas my friend and a Happy New Year.

I knew you would take this challenge and yes your sentiments are ringing loud and clear for all of us. All that beauty and so few to partake. The
strangeness of this year's celebration will soon be over.

So, let's have a Merry Christmas and hope for a Happy New Year!

Ralf

Ralf, we must! We simply must move with the full confidence the Father. Mother, God is resoundingly within our souls and Peace is but a prayer away.
