Wow! You're so quick with this response just as Marilyn put up the challenge! And I really liked "Dashing like Donner and Blitzen" and the rubbing "stardust from my eyes." It sounds like you really know how to have fun in the snow!

Delightful blast from the past! Alas, where I live (MA/USA) this year there will be no snow days: during the reign of Corona schools are closed--in-home learning--no excuse for cancellations. Thanks for the memories.

This joyous poem brought a smile to my face and captured so accurately the wonder a child feels on a winter day! I loved reading this poem, and I think you wrote this wonderfully!

Coming down the hill on a sled was quite a fun sport that I used to do a lot in winters with my son and his friends. Once, we went over a hump, a tiny one, went airborne and landed. I felt I almost broke my hip. Nowadays, I prefer to come down on my skies.

This is a fun one.

Lisa thank you, alas I am now just a fire side chat person at the lodges but boy did the grandchildren (non-Covid) times have such profound Joy!

Hey Jim. You have done a superb job in capturing the excitement that comes with a Snow Day... the picture, of course, is the prompt, but you and your lovely free verse did a fine interpretation. Well done.

Nice and timeless poem about the fun kids can have outside for free; no need for computers or other expensive equipment. We all remember toboggans and making angels (those of us in cooler climates at least.) It brings a smile to my lips.
I like that you used color adjectives like red sled and blue toboggan. Color, to my mind, is a very potent thing...we all have color memories from our past (like my old red snow suit.)
I think my favorite line may be:
Dashing like Donner and Blitzen
to the closet to find just the right clothes,
Nice job.

Hi Jim. You picked the perfect title for your poem for this post of Picture This. Frolicking describes the haphazard fun of kids going sledding. Well described and interesting. Marilyn

What an fun-filled and energetic response to the Norman Rockwell painting. This does look like a bit of steep hill and without school this is the day to slide away.

Excellent poem and a pleasure to read and review. :)

I've only ever seen snow once or twice but I can well imagine how much fun it must be to go tobogganing and sledding with your friends. Your poem really conveys that sense of excitement and anticipation.

Cute poem and one I think children would enjoy. Your selected artwork goes very well with it!
I did wonder, though, if you meant to use the word "sewn" instead of "sown" in the line "hoping I had my angel wings sown (sewn) on."
Thank you for sharing!
Susan
