That certainly sounds extremely cold! I remember a Finnish girl telling me that the first thing they had to do on arriving at school was let their eyelashes thaw out, as otherwise they were so brittle with ice crystals they would snap off. Your poem reminded me of this. Well written.

Wendy, I remember once long ago on 2 mile walk to school my ears froze, couldn?t hear a thing until the school nurse slowly applied warm compresses.

I like the solution of spicy food to remedy the cold. I especially liked "And the calendar is stuck in the muck." Good use of internal rhymes, assonance and repetition, onomatopoeia and alliteration!

It is hard to imagine those tiny snow flames forming such dense, thick packed snow on the ground and the gentle fall of pretty icicles accumulate into a blanket of snow. You made me smile here as your night attire is needed and something warm to drink too! Some fine descriptions here as you brought the chilling snow to mind, love Dolly x

What a clear and wonderful expression of cold and its many gifts. "One can only hope that the earth will continue its revolutions on pace to get us past this wintery scene." Just so lovely!

Chilling! I normally use that opener with reviews of horror stories--I can feel the tinkling crystals and the slushy cocoa. Don't despair--my psychic powers are telling me that the snow will be gone by July.

I enjoyed your free verse. Your lines read well. The use of many poetic techniques adds to your poem. I read several instances of cross rhyme, assonance, onomatopoeia, and others. Your words are well-chosen with great imagery. The image is a great pairing, too. Thanks for sharing. Jan

What's cold. I know. I visited Iceland in 2018 in May. They have an Glacial Lagoon, the most popular tourist attraction. If you google Glacier Lagoon and you will find many picture of ice chunks. They are at least several thousand years old.

Well Done. I should write one. But I have to write a Ballad to a "Brussels Spout" Christmas tree picture.

I wrote one already and will post it today. It?s like Melissa?s tilted tree.

I just posted my Ballad with internal rhymes and will promote later. It's fun.
It's called "A Brussels Sprout Christmas Tree."

I will read it soon! Thanks.

I had fun writing it just like Melissa. She reviewed it right a way.

You made me feel so cold with your excellent imagery and your description of the cold that is an excellent read.
Giving the image of the hot chocolate turning slushy was a perfect description and image to give your reader just how cold it is.
Regards,
Mary

This poem makes me think of how cold, frigid this year has been. The cold shoulder, the social distancing, no hand shakes or hugging. I hope next year is a bit warmer.

DonandVicki... I thought about going that route but I find a need a bit of levity to pass these Covid wild days.
