You're a hard worker, I can see that. Impressive that you prepared for the proofreading job by memorizing all the symbols.
Luck seems to be with you as you have no trouble finding babysitters.

Thank you for the review and the comments. Child care did not always go smoothly as you will see if you keep reading. My son will see to it that I lose this maid. LOL

Dear Beth. I found this chapter most interesting because of your very clear descriptive writing about the tasks involved in the publishing business back in the 50s .
I was privileged to have visited as large a publication as the Denver Post during this same time period, when this technology was being used.

Thank you so much for the review and the comments. I glad you could relate to that. I started to put a picture of an old Linotype machine on there. They really look like relics

I was getting worried that another man was going to cause problems for you at work. Glad you knew how to handle things. How wonderful that you found a place to use your artistic talents and keep learning new skills! I wish today's online news had real proofreaders like you!

Thank you for the review and the nice comments. I still didn't know how to handle men's advances very well but I was determined I wasn't going to let another one make me leave a job I liked. I don't believe men can get away with things like they used to.

Such an interesting telling of times past that too many might seem ancient, but not to me. I could easily picture you proofreading and marking. I like how you showed the realities of how times were changing. Two family incomes were becoming the norm. Men touching women in the workplace bothered me to no end back in the day. I was always ready to punch a guy's lights out for doing that...to me as a Christian it should not be tolerated. I guess I'm the 1800's. Oh well-loved how you shared and expressed the culture and consideration of family in those times. Nice.

Thank you so much for the review. I love it when people can relate. I really appreciate the six stars. I don't think men now can get away with the way they treated women in those days. I wished someone would have punched some lights out for me. My husband would have but I didn't tell him everything because I was afraid he'd take it too far and get it trouble.

My wife Mary had problem guy in a nursing home where she worked when she was young. After my wife got done with him, I think he could sing like Michael Jackson!

I got a good laugh out of that. Good for your five. Those old men were the worse. They thought age gave them priviledges.

Yes, in those days, instead of employing extra people they had a propensity to pile work on those willing to work. I recall it was easier to get employment in those days, mainly because there less women in the workforce at that time. I just love your biography, because these were my early working days, and these things were relatable to. Also the men were a bit "handy", they wouldn't get away with it now, well done Beth, blessings, Roy

Thank you so much Roy, I'm so glad you like this. I'd like to read your story. Do you only write poems and songs? I do appreciate you comments. I hope men can't still get away with some of things I had to put up with. I have three daughters and two granddaughters out there.

I protected my daughters, but not too much, but God looked after them, they had wisdom too, and now my granddaughter has a protective father, and grandfather, and God. But mostly God is the one. Bless you. I?m a crap typist Beth, so I confine my story to author notes. Bless you

I enjoy these memoirs. My son and his wife pay about $1500 a month for child care for one child. It is in the St. Louis area. Please keep these posts coming.
When I reread something I had written, my brain saw what I meant to say rather than the typos I had made.
(exactly what happens to me!!!!!!!!!!)
culled (I was not familiar with this word, thank you)

Thank you so much for reading and commenting. Culled is word I've used all my life. It means to get rid of the excess. You cull things you don't want. I just asked my cousin if she knew what it meant. She didn't so maybe I'd better to change to another word.

Don't change the word. It's good to be exposed to different words.

Beth, An interesting chapter this time with an emphasis on your work more than on the children.
Sorry to say so, but they took advantage of you in a tremendous way! Instead of hiring three competent people to do the three different jobs, they let you do all three! I bet they didn't even raise your salary.
I hope this Robert didn't advance in his familiarities, I don't trust him.
Found two slips:
1. going back to go back to work. (There is one going back too many)
2. It begin to appear. You mean begins to appear or began to appear?

Thank you for the review and the comments. Yes, they took advantage of me, but I was trained to do art work and the other work interested me as well so I wasn't unhappy about it. They should have paid me more but they always took advantage of women when it came to money. Robert was not trust worthy, but I wasn't going to allow him to ruin this job for me if I could help it.
Beth Thank for catching the spags.
