I think experiences like these stamp us for life. Schooldays make us aware of things for the first time that we otherwise have taken for granted. Your well written story showed us the personal side of experiencing being poor, then being shown generosity and kindness.

I too went to a Catholic school and I too remember the poor kids, the ones who lived down by the rail line. They were so disadvantaged, paid no school fees and were picked on by the Nuns. Your story reminded me of these kids.
