You are so funny, Liz, you gave me a giggle with this one. We try to get the right one first time, but mostly, the right person we decide on isn't at all what he'd led us to believe. I wish you would come back, I love reading your little gems. Loved this one, my friend. :)) Sandra xxx

Nice to see you, Sandra. Wasn't expecting you were up to stopping by. Kudos for having made good marital choices twice--heartrending piece about the death of your first husband.

Chuck and I are not married, nor will we be. That was clear from the start. He would never marry a non-Christian. Thus, he provided insurance against my entering another ill-fated marriage. I wrote this about six years ago--our relationship has since devolved to loyal--though limited--friendship. The search goes on ...

I'm reading a few a day, but writing another chapter ... I just can't get my head into it. I've never felt like this before. Your relationship sounds perfect now. Perhaps, one day, when you aren't looking for it, that illusive soul-mate will pop up. 🥰 xx

Very engaging writing, although I am sorry you had to go through three broken marriages to be able to transform that misery into a very humorous piece of writing. Chuck is a good and wise man, and he's a keeper. Hope he lasts as long as possible! As you say, you're probably sick of revising your lists. Lol. Enjoyable read.

He will always be a dear and valued friend, and sometimes that's enough to help one keep going. You have a lot to offer some-one, and one never knows who may be around the corner.

This is a magical write Elizabeth and I have missed your clever humour on Fanstory! You are a discerning shopper in the hunt for a suitable male department and they are always so amenable at the beginning and then fall into the inevitable categories you mention here and have to be filed away into the dusty archives of dead beat males. You made me smile and I escaped into your world and enjoyed your sunny disposition and optimistic smile, I wish I had a six for you, but I just gave my last one away! Love Dolly x

This was such a humorous read--it just flew by. I love how there was such bounce-back and so little self-pity in this accounting. I wish you a long and improved marriage if this is a true story.

Best wishes.

Thanks for stopping by! This is indeed, alas, a true story. Chuck and I are not married, nor will we be. That was clear from the start. He would never marry a non-Christian. Thus, he provided insurance against my entering another ill-fated marriage. I wrote this about six years ago--our relationship has since devolved to loyal--though limited--friendship. You have a wonderful sense of humor, and a trait I admire: the ability to laugh at otherwise painful situations. I feel slightly guilty that I was smiling at your marital misfortune, but it's a credit to your writing ability - and your amazing attitude toward life's misfortunes - that I could find your sad situations funny. I love your alliteration on husband number three's "Three D's" and their three "S" fliplets.

I hope life treats you better in the future but, until it does, I hope you'll keep turning your negatives into positively funny stories.

It shows. When an artist - whether writer, musician or actor - enjoys what they're doing, it comes across clearly on the other side.

It's all funny as hell. I'd give you a six just for this, from your author's comments:

"For purposes of clarity and decorum, I refer to my ex-husbands as Doug and Michael; they're both DICKs."

I wonder if we dated and married the same dicks? Wouldn't that be poetry without devotion?!

YOU are too funny!

Karenina

This piece was absolutely hilarious. I loved "Delusional, Debt-ridden, and Drunk," to "Sane, Solvent, and Sober." Very creative! I'm glad you were wise enough to keep it moving, rather than trying "to make it work." I met my husband many years ago amongst the dead (at a funeral parlor). I may write that story one day. Point is, you pegged it. You do "Love and Learn." As always, I enjoy your work.

Your writing flows so effectively. Humor and sarcasm just off of the page(screen). I love the title. The picture works great-one of the dicks having a tantrum in jail. I'm becoming a fan! :)

Sometimes we aren't right about conflicting characters in marriage, sometimes. A church where I attended had a problem with males and/or females looking for a mate in church, although secularites themselves, they figured they would find a more desirable spouse in church, I can't add to this, I just know it was a problem, well done, Liz, excellent post, blessings Roy

That's twisted logic--I know a religious Catholic who looks for women on secular sites and is always disappointed (DUH)

In this life, what you see is seldom what you get - especially when it comes to the conjunction between Venus and Mars. Your description of these cases of Jekyll and Hyde metamorphosis in your life makes entertaining reading.
