I think many lovers married under Heaven during those war years, and God would approve when saying your vows directly to Him. This was such a sweet chapter in the story, and I can understand how hard it would be to watch your newly 'married' husband go off to war not knowing if you would see him again. I recognize immediately Bill's style of writing and I'm amazed at how well you can blend the two styles together. This chapter is indeed sweet. I can clearly see because I kinda know both of you, how it could easily go to a biographical story as well. I enjoyed this chapter, and can see this one is going to be as much a spiritual story as entertainment.
If I could offer anything, it would be that you clearly love, but there isn't much "passion" going on. I do not get the feeling that either of you couldn't live without the other and I believe for a marriage to be real there has to be some of that good old fashion lust & progression of passion. I enjoyed this chapter - especially the part about Grandpa's Native American ancestry and how he and Grandma had to initially secretly marry. One of my favorite college professors was a social worker at Manzanar during WWII, and she fell in love with one of the Japanese
men interred there. They never did marry because of racial prejudice...
and she never married at all...
The pace is fine and informative.
The only thing I would do...and I know I probably shouldn't write this as it may appear offensive...is to find something other than "Goody Goody" for the character of Bill to say. I just cannot reconcile that phrase with a man of his stature...

A piece of legal paper and a preacher's saying, "By the power of such ans such state, I pronounce you husband and wife" now kiss each other and in the sight of God make it so. I of course never ever said that. Anyway excellent write and interesting story. BTW thanks for your service, and glad you came home in one piece. I was too young for Nam, and too old for Korea, but did my 7 yrs in the Ia. ARMY NAT'L GUARD . Parson -Jerry

Darn you, you made me cry again. I should know by now to grab tissues before I start reading. This was a bittersweet chapter for sure. I do hope he returns. I loved Grandma and Grandpas love story and the way you referred to the bible. Very nicely done. See you in chapter 12.
