1.) Smythe settled himself with the thought that wh(a)tever he agreed to didn't matter,

--> I'll just brag a bit, and tell you I'm one of the best bargainers you'll probably ever meet - and I know you DON'T go BACKWARDS on the deal. Did you mean for him to stick at $175 and add the trappings?
