I am loathe to drop in on a novel, but you've reviewed for me, and I feel so negligent, so here goes...

There's not a thing I could improve, not even a typo, but then, that's exactly what I expected. As for commenting on plot or anything else, I am in the dark, except to say I found your characters rich, the narrative amusing and the conclusion to this bit compelling. Now, of course, I want to read more! *smile*

No sixes, though MOST deserving!

DARN!!!! He left the letter. But, things might be looking up and he might have a reason or chance to see Helen again. I like that. Now what about Sir David?? I am not sure I trust him and I don't think Charles does either.

Thanks, Barbara. I?m sure that he?ll see more of Helen before the end. As for Sir David, I don?t trust him either - but I could be wrong.

Ohhhh! Ahhh, Shoot, the Letter.....

>Cheers, Tony;
> I had to laugh at the banter between Charles and Sir David. Chuckle!
Especially when you actually put it all together with this line, "What was there to trust about this unlikely knight with a plum in his cheek, who appeared to be offering me some shady deal?" But the interest was there.
> I think I've come across characters like David in the past adventures in my life.
Walking talking king with torn tennis shoes.
>Not much talk about Helen and Jeanne, But I could see that could be far from his mind for time, until he finds that country respite where you can think about it all.
> Really enjoyed it Tony and was very entertaining.
> Oh by the way, your story will use the word yet I believe there is a comma after it, but that could be optional depends how well you want to accentuate the word.
> Take care and have a good one Tony especially when you're happy.

Thanks, Alx. Another reviewer recommended the comma after ?Yet?, to suggest that he was thinking about it. I thought it quite a good idea. I appreciate all your other comments, too. All the best, Tony.

You're very welcome, Tony, and just remember, my dear friend, I've now become a part of your story! I even think about it all about at that time transportation wasn't there expeditious as it is today.
Take care and have a good one.

I enjoyed this chapter, Tony. I like the way Charles handles Sir David. I agree with about being stuck in the same car on the train back to London. That was funny. Yes, it seems David isn't all on the up and up. But that will give you more ideas for future chapters. Good job and thank for sharing. Jan

Thanks, Jan. I thought it time to introduce a new character who might be able to help bring the plot focus back to the letter. All the best, Tony.

Ah, you're taking us way back to the beginning and that letter! And I loved the interplay with the different class and silent social duel done in conversation. I kept having visions of Wooster in Sir David.

Was tickled by "burbled" a word that I thought Lewis Carroll made up for Jabberwocky. Great job in characterization!

I probably had one or two of the P G Woodhouse characters in the back of my mind! Glad you enjoyed this chapter. Best wishes, Tony.

Excellent writing and really reads smoothly. Dialogue was crisp and easy to follow. I liked how Brandon got insulted that Brockhurst was insulting his financial situation and decided to get back at him by calling him by his first name.
I'm just coming in this story at this juncture, so was confused by Louis and was not mentioned in the list of characters. Really enjoyed this piece.

Thanks, Margie. You?ll be even more confused now. To avoid association with a well-known man called Louis Arnoux, I?ve changed his name to Gaston. I?ve added him to the list of characters. Best wishes, Tony.

God job, Tony. You have plenty of dialogue...and not just dialogue but good dialogue. Seems to flow naturally all the way through the chapter. In addition, you haave used wonderful imagery throughout, like:

"He signalled the waitress and ordered a Vichy water before making a steeple of his carefully manicured hands."

I am sorry, I have no more sixes left at this late stage in the week, but it is deserving of six stars for sure.

Blessings. Bob

Thanks, Bob. I always appreciate your reviews. It's largely because of suggestions from you over the past month or two, that my handling of dialogue has improved. All the best, Tony

I'm so angry I haven't a six left, Tony, this is so well written and like Charles, I am very suspicious of Sir David, I don't know what his game is, but I don't trust him. Actually, I don't trust anyone who speaks with a plum in his mouth!! Well, it looks like he will be meeting up with Helen again pretty soon. Can't wait to read what it is David wants Charles to do. Well done, my friend. Virtual 6! :)) Sandra xxx

Thanks, Sandra. I don't know much about him yet, but I have a suspicion that Sir David may turn out to be a rogue. I could be wrong, of course!

This is a new mystery. There's something fishy about David for sure. You've piqued my interest even more. Very eager to hear how he fits in this story.

I don't trust Brockenhurst. I hope Charles is very careful...he certainly appears to have his own suspicions where Brockenhurst is concerned. This is a very well written and entertaining chapter.
