This is a lovely poem, Cythia1, and serves a great remembrance for you of your time in Bulgaria.
The flow and rhyming are great, and you paint a vivid picture for your reader. My favourite line is "the table strewn with food and flower" ... to me, that just spells WELCOME!
Very nice!

This is such a beautiful poem about a country I know nothing about. Your descriptions paint an interesting picture of a simple, natural place with warm, gracious people. It made me wish I could visit there.

I am so pleased to have a six for this well-written poem, I have never visited Bulgaria, but I got a strong emotional response to your well-articulated words, The poppy field is a lovely image to include
The camaraderie at dinner hour
the table strewn with food and flower
The lilting laughter hiding fears
the dancing feet that wipe out tears
Well done, Mary

A very beautiful poem about your memories of Bulgaria. Often there is a place that makes a deep impression in our minds that we will always treasure.

Many thanks for sharing your impressions of Bulgaria and selecting the splendid artwork of the poppies to reinforce your memories. I enjoyed your rhymed couplets in these rhythmic quatrains. I could see the "spirals to the clouds" and the "dancing feet". Cheers- Joan

I have enjoyed reading your poem. My hairdresser is from Bulgaria and she often tells me about her country. It does sound like an amazing place.

That's a good idea, but I' don't think she understands English. I'll have to ask her.

This poem reflects a love and respect for Bulgaria and for the experiences you had there. Interesting that the descriptions are of the countryside with its monasteries and fields of poppies and roses. It sets a positive tone. After reading it, one wonders--what about the cities?

Thank you for this thoughtful review. I was more intrigued by the countryside, I guess. It still has so much of the yesterday feeling. The cities are also unique; however, there is evidence of the years of oppression. Progress is being made.
