A fine piece of free verse narrative, full of praise for a fine animal and devoid of false sentimentality. I was particularly impressed with the way the death of this animal was handled. The significance of the penultimate stanza is pointed up by the uniquely short lines that begin and end the stanza.
You paint life in the wilderness how it is, how it has to be.

Well thank-you very much for your review and comments, much appreciated. There are times that when I write I don't think about the form or anything other than the words that go into the verse, don't know if this is good or bad or otherwise.
Cheers.
Kev.

Hi there,
This is a good solid piece.
The key is in the descriptiveness of the work, especially in the opening verse. The rhythm works well to.

Bravo! Sad but beautiful tale of a special horse. He met a tragic end, but his life was full and, I imagine, happy for a horse that loved his work and did it well.
I had a horse once, myself. So did my daughter. Wonderful animals, if you get a good one. I assume you are a good trainer. Sounds like you live in a wonderful place, too. :)

Thank-you Phyllis for your review and comments, much appreciated.
My days of training are behind me now and the scars of damage to my body from the some times arduous work keeps my life a bit tempered, so I travel with my ute and van around this great land, capturing what I feel and see with pen and camera.
Cheers.

Horses are brave and soft hearted animals. Sorry about Frosty's misfortune. Sometimes bad things just happen to good people and animals.

This is such a lovely story being told, and yet the language lets it down from time to time. For example, a missed apostrophe for 'Frosty' on the last line. It feels as if there is a gem here, and with some polishing it will shine. And, who is 'Dusty'? did the names get muddled up?
