A beautiful well written poem about driftwood. Sad the lumberjacks cut them down.
The picture depicts what happens to the stump and roots. Thanks for sharing!

I've used the word driftwood many times but I must confess until I read your poem I never thought of it as wood that actually drifts. I always pictured it as a weathered piece of tree sitting on the beach or beside the river. You personify the wood and that makes it even more realistic as it takes a journey. A mighty tree has been destroyed in your poem and as negative as that may be your poem ends with the hope of new roots somewhere.

Thank you Marykelly. Glad you enjoyed it. They got to that beach somehow. I do like collecting driftwood, but this one would require a crane to move.

Complicated. I like the idea of driftwood in a poem. I will post one that I have written on the subject. The poem winds and moves like a river. A Welsh poetry style. Interesting. A pleasing poem. Sounds nice. I live near the Mississippi, too.

A good poetic essay on the condition of life. We all are flotsam and we gently or not so gently float down life's river. You have given me a new way of pondering life.
