Being convicted as a thief wasn't punishable by death by crucifixion in Roman law. Doubtful there was a thief hanging with Jesus. Nails weren't used by the Romans until the Jewish rebellion in 70 AD. And then as a deterrent to those in the rebellion and only in Jerusalem. So much about the story doesn't follow historical accounts, but Christians spout it like it fact.
Crucifixion was reserved for crimes of slaves and those against the state. The thought was a slow agonizing and humiliating death. The reason that they broke the legs was because the bound the hands, not nailing them. They wanted these people to suffer--the term, excruciating, it comes from the word crucify.
They stripped the slaves naked and tied them up so that others would do as told. The longer it took to die, the better the lesson.
Christians attempt to glorify one of the sickest forms of human torture by making it part of their religion.
Your God is depraved if he let his son go through that. I would kill before anyone attempted to do that to my son.
You all are a bunch of sick Roman puppets.

Your history is as poor as your theology. Christ said he himself could call ten thousand angels and be delivered from the cross. Yet He voluntarily went forward out of love for His Father and for us because there was no other way to pay for our sin than with sinless blood.
Don't think you love your son more than God loves His. When it says He "gave His Son" those who know God understand it wasn't Christ alone who suffered but His Father as well.

This is a clever format to deliver the message. I don't think the notes were necessary, at least I would hope. Could use of parallel structure in the listing. Number eight is my favorite and one that would raise the dander of some denominations, I expect. A very accessible explanation to the common man. Hope for everyone.
Love ya,
LL

Much appreciated! It wouldn't be the first time Christ's teachings clashed with denominational traditions...:) JB

I love that story. There is hope for everyone, even at the end of their lives. Excellent reasons listed why the devil hates this story. A powerful message full of hope. Well done Dennis.
Blessings

Your right the Devil doesn't like this at all. I am glad he doesn't. When the revival comes I can picture the Devil having a very bad week LOL. THanks for the read and Happy Writing

This is well written and for many holds a powerful message. But I do not believe I do not measure up to Jesus. Nor do I hide from him in fantasies, pleasures, or philosophies. It is presumptuous to assume this would fail to keep my soul alive. Yes, Jesus came to seek and save but many of us are content with what we believe, as I am. Belief is a personal choice and I am content with mine.

I appreciate your reading of this, and as always, your honesty. I would only say that I have often been content with a present decision, only to rue it later on when unforeseen truth manifested itself.
With respect and affection, Dennis

I sincerely appreciate you not being 'pissed' at my response...which, of course, was not my intent.

I understand that and I really do appreciate you. And thank you for caring about my feelings too! :)

Very good Bible lesson. You did a good job with the breakdown of the reasons. A necessary message that needs to be spread. Thanks for doing just that.

This is a very powerful story and a blessing to read my friend. For years I believed I'd never be good enough but I have found out God loves me and forgives me. The enemy hates the truth about our wonderful Lord. This was a joy to read.
Thank you for sharing.
Bless you
John

Amen, John! I couldn't agree more. All glory to the hero of Calvary!
Hebrews 12:2: fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

The most wonderful thing the Lord has gifted us with, is that salvation is dependant only on faith, the grace of God and His immutable word guarantee that it is a gift given to those that believe, nothing we can do, but only what Christ has done, the thief is the glaring example of salvation through faith, not a good life, but knowing who The Lord was and the revelation of Christ's worthy sacrifice, well done my brother and friend, blessings, Roy

It is a very powerful story and you have listed great reasons why the enemy hates the truth to get out there. He wants to have all believe they are not good enough to receive the free gift Jesus has given. Another great write, friend.
