What a fabulous story. I love cherries. I had a Mrs. Guzman in my life too. She would say I'm from the old country our girls they eat. You, your skin and bones
you need to eat. Great writing. Best wishes in the contest.

Thank you. Wow, Mrs. Guzman used to, tell her girls, to tell me to eat because I was too skinny.

Thank you for sharing this special time in your life. So much happiness is felt around a table when food is being shared with those we love.
The fifties was a great time for family. Things have so changed, and even a meal time, the kids are busy trying to use their mobile devices, unless a parent insists for them to put it away at the dining table.
An enjoyable time about eating and those lazy, hazy days of summer.

Thank you. I often wish for the fifties to return. Family doesn't seem to matter to the young people in this day and age.

I can imagine how much fun this was for you as a child as you not only ate, ate, ate, but had fun with other children. 300 words is not a lot to work with, but you have 74 words left. May I suggest adding more details to describe the setting (vague how big the orchard was or if you had to climb the trees to pick the cherries) and Mrs. Guzman. You tell us she is "jolly," but we don't see her.

sweat (,) boy(,) did we laugh. How we enjoyed those (I wonder what happened to Mrs. Gunzan in later years.)My, this sounds like a fun, happy time of life for you. Play is so much more rewarding, in my opinion, if a person first does some good old fashioned outdoor work. Food tastes better, too! You paint such a vivid picture that I wish I could have been one of the frolicking children lol.
