I wondered how things were going to turn out with your mother coming to live with you. It's strange that parents do play favorites, After my grandfather died, my grandmother wouldn't stay by herself and lives with first one daughter and then another. I think she really preferred to stay with Aunt Grace. I would have helped you if she had divided her time, but your mother was determined that wouldn't happen. Great description of Anne. Mother Superior! judi

I think it was mother's sister, my aunt, who named her that-in private of course. She called Barbara The Ice Queen. I was the Pixie. The nicknames say it all.

Nicknames do have a way of sticking and defining a person. judi

I get so mad at MDs who will not prescribe pain meds for seniors suffering in pain. I find your tale interesting and I think your idea of sharing your mother's care is a good one but it rarely works out that way in families. Usually one family member becomes the main caregiver. I am looking forward to the next chapter.

Thanks, mermaids. Doctors can be so insensitive. Just wait until they age.

Happy Afternoon, Shari,

You are an excellent writer. This story picks right up where its predecessor story left off. You provide engaging dialogue for the reader. The added touches of humor are just right. Some of it dry wit, some of it sarcasm and some of it just funny. The imagery you provide with your words is excellent. Somehow, i think I've met your sister. lol.

Well done, my friend
Ray

Thanks, Ray, for a super review. I learned long ago the importance of including dialogue! Both of my sisters had their good traits, but their personalities didn't mesh with Mom's.

Hope you feel better soon, Shari. It's always nice to think the other siblings would help in the care of a parent, but that's not reality. What a great hook to keep interest in reading. One small typo ...
Mom was too frail to live my(by) herself,

Thanks, Karyn for noting the typo. Slept all day and am starting to feel alike again. LOL Hope to do part 3 tomorrow.

I think we all carry some guilt in relation to our parent's later years because we still had lives of our own and perhaps not enough time for them. I didn't know osteoporosis was a killer, although I was aware of the effect it can have on your body. As you say with regard to your mother's medication, at her age, what does it matter if it becomes addictive. Being pain free is all that matters!

I found one post on the net that called it The Silent Killer because the bones are so brittle that a serious fall could seriously maim you.

Oh, dear, illness is attacking everyone, even those of us who live in the south because it's so cold.

I really love how you write with honesty, Shari. Taking care of a sick elderly person is no picnic and the burden should be shared.

Having osteoporosis myself, all this information freaks me out. The meds I used to take hadn't changed anything so now I do daily exercises and stretches to strengthen my bones. I've been thinking about having another bone density test done just to see if they've improved because it's been years since my last one. As always, you held my attention from beginning to end. Hugs, Lou

If you have osteoporosis and are over sixty-five? insurance should pay to have a DEXA scan once a year. I lost a lot of density last year when I stopped taking long walks. I'm having my
"annual" scan come Friday. My next post will address why I found it so difficult.

Oops, I caught one small spag that I forgot to put in this review:

Mom was too frail to live my herself...should be live 'by' herself...

The length of this is just fine. It is a nice teaser for what is to come. Children taking care of ill parents is a scary thought for many. You should be admired for stepping up and taking on the task. I took care of my mother for several years and I was fortunate that her health did not pose a real problem, at least not for me. I look forward to the next post and hope you head cold moves on soon.

Beginning to feel better, sasha. Fortunately, I wrote a poem on Friday for the ABC contest and can post it tonight. Caught the spag. Thanks a lot.

Ah, how complicated are our families. I understand why this short, Shari (and I hope you feel better), but it's difficult for your story to gain any momentum. Difficult for a reader a find traction.

One thing, Shari: Almost all your sentences start with a clause. I like clauses, too, bur you might want to try and vary your sentence structure a little more.

Peace, Lee

Lee, that's excellent advice. And it's true about the momentum.
Thanks a lot for your honesty.
