Hi there; thank you for sharing this Christmas memory with us. We've been doing Christmas on our own for many years - however, after my granddaughter was born, we started going to my daughter and son-in-law's house. We have a great deal of fun; we play with the kids during the day, and at night the adults play games and laugh.

Glad you have great Christmases. We tried going to the club the year after the time this poem is about but that never worked out. This year we are doing something different.

This is more rhyme than free verse but then I suppose the free verse means anything you want to do. Why did you just have fish? That lost me, otherwise this was a really fun read.

Hi Barb it was a rant ages ago against my wife's family not providing more alternatives or traditional fare for Christmas. We will not be going there for Christmas anymore.

Hi Sankey, I so agree with you. Christmas can be a pain in the backside. We use to go to a nice restaurant for a lovely meal. Just the two of us. It has become a tradition. All the best. Great free verse poem. All the best. Ulla:))

My grandpa came up in February and we had a bed bug scare when he came up so I chose to stay away for Easter and we did our own. It was still a good day but I'm hoping to do the 4th of July with everyone again. I think doing your own thing can be good but then again it's nice to get with everyone. Maybe if traveling is too hard they can come to you, have them bring a dish to pass so that you don't have to do all the cooking. Something to think about

Thanks mate. We tried for years to get folks to come this way, to no avail. Appreciate the review.

I enjoyed this one very much. I seldom celebrate Christmas with a dinner. I usually spend it at home with a refrigerator filled with goodies that I munch on while watching old movies. Nice work with this one. I hope your next Christmas is an enjoyable one...without the hassle of traveling a long distance.

"Had we delighted in fish, fish, fish, we certainly would have no other wish" Wow, this is brilliant! I love this phrase so much. Thank you so much for sharing such an amusing poem. Have a lovely day!

Sometimes it is good to be the two of you and remembering the day for the cause. It is also good to count your blessings and be thankful for the One who made it possible. My blessings to you Sankey.

We've always enjoyed Christmas with others, mainly family, although our elder daughter, having lived in NY For 41/2 years now lives in Brisbane, sometimes with those few needy folk. But I liked your poem, bro, written in abcb rhyme, such a big country Australia. Well done Geoff, great writing,, blessings, Roy

Thanks Bro. We will be doing it our own way again this year and from now on. Been too hard doing the long trip across town every year. They wouldn't come here as they would miss their alcohol being a dry house.

I might come, I don't drink, Geoff, heh heh

It's clear that Christmas dinner with the in-laws is not your favorite culinary pastime. I'm sure it's more satisfying to plan your holiday fare yourselves.
Let me be the first to wish you a happy Christmas 2017.

Thanks new friend. Not sure we have met before. I appreciate your lovely review. It will be "just us" again this year and from now on.

A very well-written poem about Christmas with family that seldom works out well. I surely prefer to stay home and do what I wish to do. If I want to eat fish or chicken or anything else it will be my choice of meal.

Thanks Sis. For years we have driven 60 miles return for Christmas with Louise's family. They very rarely if ever come our way for anything much. We won't be joining them for Christmas from now on.
