When I began reading this I thought it was just a story. The true value of your writing became clear only when I realized at the end that there was a "to be continued" follow-up yet to come. With that in mind you did a magnificent job of introducing characters, setting, attitudes... everything that makes me want to stay in touch for the next leg of the journey.

Thank you Gerald, I really appreciate your review and comments. I appreciate you dropping by. It is an on going story of my married and what it was like raising four children in the South.

I remember adventures with small kids. I seemed to deal with the mishaps and whines, but my then-husband could not deal with anything called a vacation and kids. there are great memories that got better when he decided his job needed him more than we did.

Hugs, Carol

Thank you Carol. My husband was a fan of vacations and after the one coming up next he was even more against them. Still we had a lot of things we did enjoy doing together.

Bring it on. No doubt, it will be a nightmare if you can call it comfort with that type of travel. Don's question was typical for a boy his age. Good one, Beth.

Thank you, Chuck. I appreciate the review and all the stars. No, it wasn't the greatest way to travel, but more like in Grapes of Wrath. But I was so anxious to get away, I would have ridden on a donkey.

You are so right, Beth. Had I known some of the pitfalls in my life, I might not be sitting here writing to you, and a lot of other things I enjoy doing. There are good and bad in everything, including out decision making. I enjoyed reading this part, my friend. :)) Sandra xx

The very title brought back my childhood of watching Green Acres after school, lol!!!!!!!!!! A very interesting read about the lure of the country for your husband and the need to adjust things, like weekends, to accomodate that desire with the realities of raising the kids, etc.

Hi, Beth. " riding my bike down dusty roads, climbing embankments, and chasing fireflies" LOL...These are wonderful things to do in the country. You have a wonderful little story here...or Essay if you wish.

More wonderful images here:

"Not wanting to be separated from my husband all weekend, the kids and I often came along for the ride. The children were easily bored, so I invented games and had them singing kiddy songs while in the car, but once we arrived, there wasn't much for them to do other than watch their dad build fences and herd cattle. There is just so much blackberry picking, exploring, and wildflower gathering before kids start get antsy and become annoying. Some of the many questions my son came up with stuck a raw nerve with Evan"

You have had an interesting life, my friend. Bob.

Thank you Bob, I do appreciate the review and comments. I don't think it is as interesting as yours as been, but I have enjoyed it. You had some really bad moments as a kid. My life pales in comparison, but I wouldn't have wanted to swap places with you.

Beth, I find this very realistic to the pitfalls found in country living. One will live on the land whether a home is there or not. Acreage must be tended one way or another. Monies involved in maintaining property become constant visitors to the family finance well. The story shows how hard it is to enjoy being a part time farmer. Enjoyed. td

Thank you so much for the review and the comments. In was a hard in a way, but my husband enjoyed it throughly. It was an escape from a job that wasn't rewarding because of his relationahip with his boss.

You have me wondering what nightmares you had going West, and I'm also wondering how he could haul cattle in a truck with a camper body. I would think your son would have a great time exploring the farmland, but I guess he could have easily gotten lost on that much land. Well written, Beth.

Thank you April, I really appreciate the review and the comments.
The camper hull was removable he had another type enclosure with that was open at the top but closed on the sides that he could use for hauling cattle. We later built a house and the kids enjoyed being there more then. Don was too young to go off exploring by himself when we first got the place. As to the nightmare going West, it is already posted and active. It is in my portfolio if you don't see it listed.

You're welcome, Beth. I'll get to it, tomorrow morning hopefully.

I've been working on my novel. I want to finish it and then, post a chapter every day.

This is not going to be good. A vacation with three small children in a truck designed to haul cattle--but has a camper body? Am I missing something?
I'm enjoying your adventures, Beth. Just trying to understand what you're in for.

Peace, Lee

Gradually, he began--I think this is a little redundant, Beth.

The story flows well and is well set out, but I felt a little let down at the end. Maybe you could rethink the last little bit and try to introduce a better hook for the next part... something to make us want to come back and read more. Giddy

Thank you so much for the review and the suggestion. Several readers most have liked the last part the best and have said it makes them want to read more. If I get another reader who agrees with you, I will certainly change It. I don't want to give too much away.
