lol very good hockey poem that brought a chuckle. I like hockey except that it stressed me out completely because I am so worried about viewing a horrible mishap like the loss of teeth lol nicely written

Thank you for your graciousness and response...It's all your fault...
I use the Clerihew form similar to how you use your Limericks:-)

I understand more than you think...I wrote my first Rondelet many years ago and became addicted to them...To this very day, I have troubles lol

This is a good rhyming poem. Although I'm not familiar with your references, your full and descriptive poem and Author Note did help.

Best wishes,

Alex

Alex: This particular genre of poetry pokes gentle fun at a celebrity. In this case the protagonist/subject is perhaps the greatest hockey to ever to play the game: He won one Stanley Cup and is in the Hockey Hall of Fame...It is fairly common for hockey players to be missing their front teeth if they play the game long enough or fail to use a mouth guard. I hope this helps you understand the poem. teafor2

Thank you for sharing this hocky poem with us. I am not a fan of hockey but have watched in on occasion. It is fast moving and interesting. I guess I didn't grow up with it like some of the other sports. I enjoyed reading. This poem had a very smoothy flow to it.

barbara: I am glad you at least know it's a very physical game that requires eclectic skills and endurance which are employed almost
automatically. Although, I've never played, but have watched enough to see teeth knocked out and blood spilled during the helter and skelter of the competiters get after each other on the ice.
    Thanks for responding. teafor2

LOL.

I haven't read a Clerihew in quite awhile! This one is quite humorous...

I remember watching him play and can't help but think he's chuckling from that big hockey rink in the sky!

Bobby Hull was one of the best ice hockey players ever existed. I don't know if he won a Stanley Cup and only you know that. Excellent work! No mistakes found. Thank you for sharing!

I don't know this sportsman but I think you achieve the Clerihew prompt in your rhyming verse. It was all sounding so impressive until the loss of his teeth which completely undermined his glorious attributes! Thanks for sharing. Debbie

Good morning and thank you for stirring some long forgotten memories.... My then-husband was a hockey fanatic (including our honeymoon) and you could always hear him throughout the house, screaming "Get the Puck" and a few other choice words as well. He loved Bobby Hull.

Smiles, Carol

Carol: You've just made my day...I write to get a reaction: Good, bad
or indifferent...Your being able to identify with this (via your spouse)
makes me smile. Your sentiments and rating...Well, you know what that does...It helps to encourage me to keep writing. teafor2

I remember the first time I saw a young athlete on TV. He was introduced as a professional Hockey player. I was impressed by his boyish good looks and then he opened his mouth to smile and speak. He had no front teeth and I was taken aback. I discovered later that missing front teeth was pretty common in the days before mouth guards became standard equipment.

This is a humorous post and you made me smile with this poem. Great rhymes and sentiment. At school I had a black eye as a result of playing hockey and it put me off for life! Love Dolly x x x

This form is new to me. I read the author's note, and it seems to fit well. This poem is short and sweet, and the stairstep of the lines growing longer is interesting.
