OMG!! This is a tad different to the other stories I'm reading! Lol. This is an excellent Halloween story, Gretchen! Even if she hadn't ended up as the charming witch's dinner, she'd have had nothing to show for waiting all that time since the witches answers hadn't been recorded, only the reporters questions. That would have been a good reason to jump up, try and clonk the witch, and run! Very well done, my friend. I'll be watching out for more of these stories now. :)) Sandra xx

Oh, you wrote this in October 2012 not 2013 according to the posting date. xx

Oops. Even older than I thought. Thanks for enjoying this preview of Halloween. I love a good jump scare but don't like the messy stuff. Lol. Old fashioned ghost stories are my favorite. Gretchen

This is a most unusual story for you Gretchen, I can't remember you ever writing a horror story, but it think it ranks with som of the best I've read from you, you've done a good job with this, well done, blessings Roy

well, for Pete's sake! what a story. I think that reporter was a bit slow on the uptake.
Looking at the practical side, she, being young and strong should've been able to grab the cane, etc, etc. Ah, well, I guess we'll never know.
what a change from Iris! :)

This is from 2012. Back then I identified with the reporter, now I feel closer to Iris. Lol. Thanks for reading. Gretchen

Wow! I really love the descriptive contrast of the house in the first paragraph. That really reeled me in. I could even imagine old varnished smells and that sense, so true how a place can feel quaint and creepy at the same time. If I heard someone cackle with that kind wart on their nose, I'd already be in a dead run!

Thanks. I had fun writing this. It's from 2012. Looking back over my portfolio last night, I had forgotten about it. Gretchen

Well, I wasn't expecting that! She shouldn't have gone alone. Now, the world will never know what happened to her because I'm sure the recorder was done away with. I'm reading this just before going to bed. Thanks a lot, Gretchen. hahahaha

Gretchen.

Halloween is one of my favorite times of the year.

Your story is spectacular. It's witty and it's creepy all at once.

A great revival to begin the spook-tacular season.

Cheers to the witches brew
John

I guess it is all on the recorder since she apparently had the interviewer for her evening meal. It a well written little story that makes a good treat for Halloween. I didn't realize the Halloween stories were staring so soon.

I can't enter because I wrote this back in 2013. I just figured I'd start with an occasional Halloween story. But thank you. Gretchen

Are you still there, Gretchen? Can you hear me? Knock once for yes!
I told you that your love of gingerbread would get you into trouble!
And, yes, the birds have eaten ALL the breadcrumbs - no one knows where you are!
Pretty clever scary story - nice touch to bring in Elizabeth Montgomery - I watched every single one of those - and the later version with the three (very sexy) sisters - although it was obviously a rerun of Charlie's Angels - and by the same writer. I digress!

Good to set the scene with Hansel and Gretel AND Psycho - the house reminded me of The Munsters - but it became increasingly like 'Interview With the Vampire' - either way, you're a goner, Gretchen! Slow release on the reveal worked really well - but a bit cliched on the witch's features - they don't like that, you know. Be afraid!
I shall miss you Gretchen. R.I.P.
Paul

I wrote this over 10 years ago. Decided to dust it off and share it again. Thank you for your entertaining review. Who said I was the reporter? Cackle, cackle. Gretchen

Well it is in the first person - though that idea adds a new level of malevolence!

Wonderful Gretchen! Love it! As ever, you prove how skilled you are at telling a range of stories and in particular mastering dialogue. The story has a creepy element but also fun humour especially with the dancing black hairs of the witch's wart. In short, I thoroughly enjoyed reading it (it'll be my last before bedtime so hopefully no weird dreams!) Small edit: para starting: My blood turned cold... "Sweat (is) started? Great job and good luck! Debbie
