James is very intelligent and well read. He can explain to Charlie aspects of a serial murderer and psychopath. Mother is determined to speak to the reporters, but she doesn't want James to speak to them. This is one argument she will lose. The chapter highlights James intelligence and determination.

Hi Valerie:)
You continue to fascinate me with the improvements from your first version of this book. I especially like the information about the profiles of serial killers.

I agree that John Mathews, as you portray him would fit into:

"The last is 'power and control'. They enjoy the victim's terror and suffering. Ted Bundy, Henry Lee Lucas, and John Wayne Gacy enjoyed the power and control they had over their victims."...."Some serial killers keep souvenirs; personal items that allow them to enjoy the memories of the crime. Others keep trophies they make into a shrine." {This was a serious discussion between James and Charlie. you convey a lot of information without overloading your readers. I admire your extensive research.}

I think that Mon has finally found her own voice away from her husband's years of suppression. she seems to have the right idea about it being time to make a statement to the press. i also understand why James wants to make his own statement.

I didn't note any SPAG. Great job.

Now relatives have come to help, but will surly complicate the family's life. I am ready to read more.

Love and Irish hugs,

roger

I had to laugh when you mentioned my extensive research into serial killers. I actually had to take a break when I was doing the research because I began to dream about them every night. I am very please you feel I did not overload the reader, that was one of my concerns. I hope to post the next chapter tomorrow or Tuesday.

I hope you have a good reason for Charles not asking about the conversation between James and the dad. I know, I know, you always have a good reason for what you do. But that is the first thing I would have asked when James entered the hotel room. You do keep us on the edge of our seats.
I was hoping that some of the dad's family would come out and explain why he is the way he is. Now, that hope has been dashed. I am impatient!
good work again, and again

Yup, but that's okay. Yes, there is a reason why neither Mom nor Charlie asked about Dad. You'll find out soon. Glad you liked this one.

I had a friend with an IQ over 200 so James is patterned after him. This is fiction but based on research of families of real serial killers. Glad you liked both the chapter and my painting.

I think that's the hard part about the site is that when you have a whole scene or section that works very well as one piece but you can't post it whole due to the length, dividing it up is very difficult. I think you did well and I really like the scene between James and Charles about going through the different personality types. It's never easy determining why or anything like that. Good job!

We can guess, but the bottom line is that you will never really know, or understand, the why. I am pleased you enjoyed this one.

This is another well written chapter that is emotionally packed. I am amazed at how well the family is moving on. Of course they have not choice. I would probably be where Susan is at.

Not too long at all, Sasha. Very good, tense, and your empathy for the children in this chapter is very high. It's strange how people can commit the most heinous crimes and walk the streets without us knowing it.

Wow, when you were naming the serial killers and the type and reasoning behind their crimed, made me think right away of Richard Ramirez, The Nightstalker. He was, on top of a variety of mental illnesses, was a Satanist and his face, girlie, it'd stop a clock in its tracks. Also, the Boston Strangler..can't remember his name. We've had our share in this country!

Great job,

Hugs,
Gayle

The US has the highest number of serial killers than any other country. Germany is a close second but sadly, the rest of the world is slowly catching up. At least statistically, not all countries recognize serial killings. Ramirez was definitely a thrill killer with lots of other mental problems going on.

This is another very well written chapter. I'm so glad your are focusing on the family and their pain and anguish because people are quick to judge them as being guilty. I think you are educating us to be more open-minded.

It is amazing how many people are convinced the families should have seen clues, when in fact the family is almost always the last to know. Glad you liked this one.
