Gert, That wasn't my daughter. That was Evan and I when we were young in the 50's. It was a chapter I wrote over ten years ago when Evan was still alive. I just did a renewal on an older book.

That sounds something like our early days of marriage. We bought two plates, two glasses, one coffee cup (I didn't drink coffee), two forks, well, you get the idea. One set of sheets but no pillows, convincing each other we didn't really like sleeping with a pillow. Those were grand days, and ones I'll never forget. I'm sure you feel the same.

When we were young and and just startiing out, we could stand more stress than we can now. Those were grand days that live in our memory.

This Humour Non-Fiction Essay speaks how the newlyweds search for their first apartment and how humorously they begin their adventure; no planning would need; well said, well done; thanks for sharing this. ALCREATOR

Charming reminiscence. I shudder to contemplate the roach infestation; vividly rendered!

planning of our future for Evan and [I=ME].

[SUGG OMIT In fact,] most of the ones we found were [OMIT COMMA] either in unsuitable areas, or had already been rented.

She was probably grateful to us, because COMMA I have a feeling, we took care of her roach problem.

Thank you so much for the review and comments on this older story. I tried to read up on the rules for commas when using "because" and they ran from not needing a comma, to placing the comma before the word "because" but not after. Some of the clause rules are confusing.

Thank you Chuck, I'm always happy when you read one of my storeis. I guess our lives haven't been that different. It is good to have someone who can relate.

When Mary and I married in 59, I was out of the army making $45 every two weeks. Forty-five years and six kids later, I retired with a six-figure income. Built three corporations, gave it all away, and was happy as a meadowlark.

I like the way you describe real those adventures. For me no problem, I like the new couples have such experiences to know that marriage is so difficult and it's not a piece of cake. After many years, they will remember those days, maybe they will laugh, maybe not, but sure they will appreciated so much that having a home it's not easy way. This reason will help them by letting their marriage be stronger for the lifetime.

Thank you so much for the review and the insightful comments. Yes, it is certainly not a piece of cake but looking back some of the things we did were pretty naive and stupid. It is a learning experience and it wasn't funny then but it is now.

HI, Beth. This is such a rare adventure, and hilarious. I cannot imagine the cockroaches hanging and falling down on both of you. Yet you survive... :)

For a while, I wasn't sure I'd survive it but in retrospect it is quite a humorous memory. Thank you so much for the review and comments. I'm glad you found it funny.

Superb - It's a tale of love's young dream- no matter what when you're with the one you love who cares about cockroaches dead or alive? 'I had a good cry and then we both cracked up laughting'? I can't think of a better way to start off married life !

Thank you so much for the review and comments. Actually love had nothing to do with my adversion to cockroaches. LOL It's been a wild ride and we've had a lot of fun along the way. Laughting together is the best recipe for a happy marriage.

I for one am glad you revived this Beth. I loved the story and it was easy to read. Brought back a few memories of when I first married at the age of eighteen and lived in rented furnished hovels. Lol
Nice writing
Cheers
